Pre-Publishing Social Media Video Size Quality Check

Social media video sizes decide whether a client’s video publishes cleanly or comes out cropped, blurry, or rejected. Each platform sets its own aspect ratio, resolution, duration ceiling, and file limit. Facebook accepts a 240-minute upload. Google Business Profile cuts you off at 30 seconds. An agency scheduling one video across ten networks works between those two extremes every week.

This guide lists the current video specs for every platform RecurPost publishes to: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Google Business Profile, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and Bluesky. We checked every number against the platforms’ current upload rules in July 2026.

Use 1 Master Video to Post to 10 Platforms at Once

The 9:16 vertical master video aspect ratio and size supports 8 platforms and 10 post types in a single export. You can create your client profile videos in this frame for:

  • Instagram Reels and Stories
  • Facebook Reels and Stories
  • TikTok
  • YouTube Shorts
  • Pinterest
  • Threads
  • Bluesky

For maximum compatibility, create client videos in a 16:9 horizontal aspect ratio at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Use this master format when publishing to:

  • YouTube long-form videos
  • LinkedIn landscape
  • Google Business Profile

Apply both the master video specs to upload to all 10 platforms and 14 post types.

A 1:1 square ratio is useful to post videos on Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. It supports both landscape and portrait previews without crop. Don’t use a square ratio for vertical screens like Instagram and Facebook Reels or TikTok. It compromises the frame.

How to Optimize Videos for Each Platform

Check RecurPost’s tailored posts to upload the right social media video size file per platform in 1 composer. Limit the workflow to 2-exports instead of 10 individual post schedules.

Best for: Agencies and freelancers that bulk-upload videos for different post formats across all major social platforms to reduce steps in the workflow and save time.

Facebook and Instagram Video Sizes

Both Facebook and Instagram follow Meta’s video infrastructure, but have different upload limits per post type.

Facebook Video Sizes

Facebook In-Feed, Reels, Stories, and Ads

Facebook supports aspect ratios from 16:9 to 9:16. The maximum file upload size is 10 GB, and the video duration is 240 minutes. Therefore, use the same frame, 9:16, at 1080 x 1920 pixels for Instagram and Facebook Reels. Facebook Stories also support this aspect ratio to display videos in full-screen mode.

After preparing your video according to these specifications, you can publish every Facebook video format through a single workflow in RecurPost. Therefore, select your post format inside the RecurPost composer for Facebook Pages and schedule Feed posts, Stories, or Reels from one dashboard. Consequently, publish to Facebook Groups and personal profiles through mobile push notifications due to API restrictions. Check the Facebook post sizes guide for image dimensions.

Instagram Video Sizes

Instagram Feed, Reels, Stories, and Carousel Ads

Use the 9:16 aspect ratio at 1080 x 1920 pixels for Instagram Reels and trim them within 3 minutes. Instagram supports Reel uploads of up to 20 minutes from your camera roll. For optimal discoverability, a 3-minute Reel is recommended, as it performs best in the discovery feed. In addition, split Instagram Stories videos into 60-second cards to maintain seamless playback. The aspect ratio you choose also affects how your content is displayed. As a result, captions placed outside the visible frame may be cropped in previews. To avoid these formatting issues, export Reels in a 9:16 vertical format.

Try RecurPost’s Instagram composer to include platform-specific customization, including:

  • content type
  • custom thumbnail
  • collaborator invites
  • location tagging

Apply the 9:16 aspect ratio for Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, IG Stories, and FB Stories in one export from the composer. Check the Instagram post size guide for full dimension sets.

TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube Long-Form Video Sizes

TikTok and YouTube Shorts both support the 9:16 at 1080 x 1920 pixels export. While Standard YouTube long-form videos apply a 16:9 aspect ratio at 1920 x 1080 pixels.

TikTok Video Sizes

TikTok In-Feed and Ad specs

TikTok is no longer a 60-second app. The social network accepts 3-second to 60-minute video uploads. It is recommended to upload your videos in MP4 or MOV format with H.264 video and AAC audio. The upload source, namely Android, iOS, and web uploader, determines the file size:

  • Android – 72 MB
  • iOS – 287 MB
  • Web uploader – 4 GB

Check the TikTok video sizes guide for cover frames and content type specs.

YouTube Video Sizes

YouTube Standard, Shorts, and Ad formats

YouTube videos are split into 2 categories, namely: Shorts and Long-form videos. Prepare your video according to the requirements of the selected format. Use a 3-minute YouTube Shorts video at a 9:16 aspect ratio in 1080 x 1920 pixels. For YouTube long-form videos, apply the 16:9 master video ratio or higher.

The maximum file upload size for verified accounts is capped at 256 GB or 12 hours. Conversely, unverified accounts support uploads up to 15 minutes.

Set the YouTube video privacy status, title, category, and tags per video from a single RecurPost composer. Similarly, set TikTok account settings for privacy, comment, duet, stitch, and branded content options from the same composer.

Get YouTube’s scheduling details on the YouTube scheduler page, and the full format set in the YouTube media size and specs guide.

LinkedIn, X, and Pinterest Video Sizes

Both X/Twitter and Pinterest videos upload at 9:16 master aspect ratio. However, LinkedIn allows the widest range of aspect ratios for any social platform.

LinkedIn Video Sizes

LinkedIn In-Feed and Ad specs

LinkedIn supports video sizes of 1:2.4 to 2.4:1. Supported video resolutions start from 256 x 144 px to 4096 x 2304 px. Video duration limits on LinkedIn vary by device. Desktop uploads support videos between 3 seconds and 15 minutes while mobile app uploads are limited to 10 minutes. The maximum file size limit is 5 GB/video.

Get per-placement details in the LinkedIn post size guide.

Twitter/X Video Sizes

Twitter landscape, portrait, and square videos

X supports video uploads in 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 aspect ratios. Standard accounts can upload videos of up to 512 MB, with a maximum duration of 2 minutes and 20 seconds.

Upload limits increase with an X Premium subscription. Premium users can upload videos of up to 16 GB and 4 hours in length when using the web or iOS app. However, videos longer than 2 hours are processed at a maximum resolution of 720p.

Get all image specs in the X post dimensions guide.

Pinterest Video Sizes

Pinterest standard and max-width video ads

Pinterest supports videos ranging from 4 seconds to 15 minutes. The maximum upload size is 2 GB per video. Create videos in one of the supported aspect ratios of 2:3, 4:5, 9:16, or 1:1. To get pin-specific dimensions, check the Pinterest pin dimensions guide.

Google Business Profile, Threads, and Bluesky Video Sizes

Both Threads and Bluesky accept 9:16 vertical master videos, but Google Business Profile accounts do not.

Google Business Profile Video Sizes

Google Business Profile accepts videos of up to 30 seconds in duration. The file size is limited to 75 MB, and the resolution used should be 720p (1280 x 720). A horizontal orientation of 16:9 is suitable for this platform. GBP videos can take 24 to 48 hours to appear.

To simplify post monitoring, RecurPost sends instant notifications whenever Google Business Profile rejects a scheduled post after acceptance. Refer to the scheduling details on the Google Business Profile scheduler page, and the image dimensions in the Google Business Profile post image size guide.

Note: If you manage 10 GBP location profiles for clients and post 1 video to all 10 profiles, increasing the video duration to 31 seconds will fail all 10 posts.

Threads Video Sizes

For Threads, upload videos of up to 5 minutes in length with a maximum file size of 500 MB. The recommended upload format is a 9:16 aspect ratio at a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Check the Threads scheduler page to see publishing guidelines, and the Meta Threads image and video specs guide for the full format set.

Bluesky Video Sizes

For your client’s Bluesky video posts, upload 1 MP4 video per post. The video length is supported for up to 3 minutes. Plus file sizes of 100 MB or less upload successfully.

Note: You cannot post both images and videos in a single Bluesky post.

Check the Bluesky scheduler to get complete workflow details, and the Bluesky post size guide for character, image, and video limits.

Identify Reasons Behind Scheduled Video Failures: File Limits, Format Rejections, and Auto-Cropping

Videos that play normally during desktop previews may still fail at publish time. The 3 common specification problems that cause such failures are oversized files, incorrect containers and codecs, and incorrect aspect ratios.

Oversized files fail during upload, while incorrect codecs cause silent post failures. Moreover, incorrect aspect ratios result in poorly published posts.

Avoiding cropping and quality loss

To help resolve these publishing concerns, RecurPost provides 850+ platform error types to identify size mismatches, codec rejections, and false token expiry.

Check the platforms RecurPost supports page to get per-platform publishing field details.

Best for: agencies and freelancers who want to verify the size, format, and length of the client’s video posts before scheduling and publishing to avoid post failures.

How RecurPost Applies Social Media Video Sizes while Scheduling

The RecurPost composer tab allows you to modify video specs per-platform posts in a single window. In the same window, RecurPost’s tailored posts let you modify captions, hashtag groups, and platform fields for each network. Also, RecurPost allows a cover image for video posts per supported platforms and includes alt text for every platform.

RecurPost for Seamless Video Scheduling

RecurPost does not change a correct export. However, uploading a master video with the wrong ratio stays wrong on each platform at preview and publish.

Note: The video thumbnails and cover images follow image specs, and not video specs.

Check pixel dimensions for thumbnails, covers, and other image posts in the social media image sizes guide.

RecurPost Social Media Video Sizes FAQs

What is the best video size for all social media platforms?

The best single video size for social media is 1080 x 1920 pixels at a 9:16 aspect ratio. This frame publishes natively to Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, Stories, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, and Threads. It does not fit standard YouTube, landscape LinkedIn posts, or Google Business Profile. This is primarily because it requires a 16:9 ratio. As a best practice, create two master video files, one in a 9:16 aspect ratio for vertical platforms and the other in a 16:9 aspect ratio for horizontal platforms.

What is the maximum video length on each social media platform?

The maximum video length for each social media platform differs between 30 seconds and 12 hours.

  • Google Business Profile stops at 30 seconds
  • X allows 2 minutes 20 seconds on standard accounts and 4 hours on Premium
  • YouTube Shorts caps at 3 minutes, Threads and Bluesky at 5 and 3 minutes respectively
  • LinkedIn at 15 minutes from desktop
  • Pinterest at 15 minutes
  • TikTok at 60 minutes
  • Facebook feed video at 240 minutes
  • Standard YouTube at 12 hours for verified accounts

Can I post the same video to every platform?

Yes, you can post the same video to every platform as long as you have 2 export master video aspect ratios. A 9:16 cut covers Reels, Stories, TikTok, Shorts, Pinterest, and Threads. A 16:9 cut covers YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and Google Business Profile, trimmed to each platform’s length limit. RecurPost’s tailored posts attach the right file and caption per platform from one composer. The one case that never works is sending a single uncut file everywhere. GBP’s 30-second cap alone rules that out.

Why did my scheduled video fail to publish?

A scheduled video usually fails for one of 3 reasons:

  1. the file exceeds the platform’s size limit
  2. the codec or container isn’t accepted
  3. the platform’s API rejected the upload during processing

RecurPost flags the failed post with the platform’s stated reason and retries it automatically. Check the file against the spec table on this page, re-export, and reschedule.

Does RecurPost check video sizes before publishing?

Yes, RecurPost checks video sizes before publishing with its error-handling feature to catch video spec problems. RecurPost documents more than 850 platform error types, flags a failed video post with the platform’s stated reason, and retries it automatically. Plus, RecurPost does not re-render or resize your video file, so export to each platform’s spec before scheduling.
