Compare Planoly alternatives by the reason you’re leaving: X auto-publishing, the social-set model, client approvals, analytics beyond Instagram, cheap and simple scheduling, staying visual-first, or social listening. RecurPost fits rosters that outgrew social sets or need real approvals, while Buffer, Metricool, HeyOrca, Later, Sprout Social, and Hootsuite win other workflows. See the 9 best alternatives at a glance or compare RecurPost with Planoly directly.

Planoly publishes to X (Twitter) by phone reminder only. Planoly’s own site lists autopublishing for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Threads, then notes that X and Amazon posts arrive as manual reminders instead. That gap sits next to a bigger structural one: Planoly sells accounts in social sets that hold at most one account per platform, so the $55 Pro plan caps you at six Instagram accounts no matter how you arrange it. Each trigger below points to a different replacement. The groups sort the strongest Planoly alternatives by the reason you are leaving, with cost math run in both directions and the cases where each tool (RecurPost included) loses.

The short version, before the evidence:

Every pick in that table loses somewhere. The rest of the page shows where.

Planoly alternatives are social media management platforms that replace some combination of Planoly’s visual planning, publishing, and client-sharing workflows. No single replacement matches Planoly’s Instagram-first grid planning and creator storefront, so the right social media management tool depends on whether platform coverage, approvals, or account volume is what’s actually pushing you out.

Why Creators and Agencies Leave Planoly

Planoly built a genuinely good Instagram planner and wrapped a creator storefront around it. Six gaps drive most departures.

Planoly bundles accounts into social sets, and each set holds one account per platform. A second Instagram account needs a second set. The Starter plan includes 1 set, Growth includes 2, and Pro tops out at 6 sets for $55 per month, so six accounts on any single platform is the hard ceiling of Planoly’s biggest plan.

Planoly never auto-publishes to X. Planoly sends a phone reminder and you post manually, on every plan. Planoly also skips Google Business Profile, Facebook Groups and Bluesky entirely, which rules out most local-business rosters.

Planoly’s client sharing is view-only. A client can open a shared Instagram calendar by link without an account, but there is no approve or reject action, no comment thread and no pending-approval email on any plan. Agencies run approvals over email screenshots.

Planoly’s team collaboration failed our hands-on trial in May 2026. The invite email linked teammates to a plain login page instead of the inviter’s workspace, and Planoly offers no roles: a member added to a social set sees every account in that set.

Planoly’s analytics carry a beta label and lean almost entirely on Instagram. Platform-level reach and impressions cover Instagram and Pinterest only, and there is no report builder, no PDF export, no white-label option and no automated client reports.

Planoly’s posting workflow strains at volume. There is no CSV bulk upload, no RSS import, no queue, media library uploads happen one file at a time, and a single scheduling batch caps at 20 media items.

A four-client boutique agency shows how these gaps stack. Each client posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X, and one client is a local bakery that needs Google Business Profile posts. On Planoly the agency posts every X update by hand from a phone, the bakery’s GBP posts happen outside the tool, and all four clients approve content over email because the shared calendar is view-only.

A solo Instagram creator selling digital products has not outgrown Planoly. The Linkit creator store takes zero transaction fees, the DM automation that supports it works, and the Instagram-dedicated workspace remains the strongest part of the product. The staying-on-Planoly section below covers that case.

What a Planoly Replacement Has to Cover

Planoly prices in social sets, and that unit hides the real comparison. One set holds at most one account per platform, so a set is worth between one and seven connected accounts depending on how many platforms each client uses. Almost every alternative prices per social account, per channel, per brand or per user seat instead. Count your roster as a flat number of accounts, and separately count your largest single-platform cluster, because that cluster is what the set model actually caps.

Then run five checks against that roster:

  • Confirm auto-publishing on the platforms your roster needs, especially X, Google Business Profile and Bluesky. Planoly covers none of the three, and Later and HeyOrca skip X as well.
  • Check the posting workflow at volume. Bulk CSV upload, RSS import and a real drafts space separate agency schedulers from visual planners.
  • Find the plan tier where a real approve-or-reject workflow unlocks. Planoly never offers one, Buffer holds it until Team at $12 per channel, and Later starts it at $50.
  • Price the loaded cost, meaning base plan plus every add-on your roster forces. Vista Social’s $79 plan becomes $108 once X publishing joins.
  • Map the migration path before canceling. Planoly holds your media in its library, but captions staged in the calendar need copying out by hand.

The coverage table below settles the first and third checks for the tools this page recommends most often. We verified the Planoly cells against its site on July 16, 2026, and the rest against each vendor’s pricing page.

The Best Planoly Alternatives by Switching Trigger

You Need X (Twitter) Auto-Publishing

Best matchRecurPost, or Buffer for a small solo roster
Choose RecurPost whenAgency scale needs X support and the link-fee wallet included, not as an add-on
Choose Buffer when2-3 accounts is the whole roster
Avoid Later and HeyOrcaNeither publishes to X at all

RecurPost publishes to X automatically on every paid plan and runs a Twitter wallet that covers X’s $0.20 per-link posting fee, so link posts go out without setting up API billing per client. Buffer publishes to X on its free plan and up. Publer covers X at roughly $5 to $10 per account per month. Vista Social restores X for $29 per month on top of its $79 Professional plan and folds X analytics into that add-on. Metricool sells X publishing as an add-on from its $25 Starter tier upward.

Later does not fix this trigger. Later removed X publishing on August 28, 2025, so a visual-first buyer leaving Planoly over X has to look past the most obvious sibling tool. HeyOrca dropped X as well.

RecurPost wins this group at agency scale because X support and the link-fee wallet come included rather than as add-ons. A solo poster with two or three accounts gets the same fix cheaper from Buffer.

Stuck posting X updates by hand from your phone? RecurPost auto-publishes to X on every paid plan, with the Twitter wallet covering the per-link fee.

You Outgrew the Social-Set Model

Best matchRecurPost, or Metricool for many separate clients
Choose RecurPost whenYour roster clusters on one platform — 6+ Instagram accounts fit one plan instead of six sets
Choose Metricool when10 separate clients need managing on a $25 budget
Price scenario10-account single-platform roster: Planoly $87/mo vs. RecurPost $45/mo vs. Metricool $25/mo

RecurPost prices per social profile with no set boundaries. The Agency plan covers 20 profiles for $79 per month, any mix of platforms, with extra profiles at $4 each: ten Instagram accounts and ten Google Business Profiles is a valid roster. RecurPost also organizes those profiles into per-client workspaces with separate content libraries, which is the client grouping Planoly’s sets only approximate.

Metricool prices per brand, and one brand holds one client’s whole profile set. Metricool covers 10 brands for $45 per month on its Starter tier with unlimited publishing, which makes it the cheapest way to manage ten multi-platform clients on this page.

Publer prices per account, which stays cheap for small rosters and grows linearly. A 20-account roster on Publer lands near RecurPost’s flat $79 without the included team seats.

For rosters that cluster on one platform, RecurPost takes this group: six-plus Instagram accounts fit one plan instead of six sets. Metricool wins when ten separate clients need managing on a $25 budget.

You Run Client Approvals and a Real Team

Best matchRecurPost or HeyOrca
Choose RecurPost whenThe roster includes X or Google Business Profile
Choose HeyOrca whenZero X clients and the approval-round experience is the whole job
Choose Sendible whenThe same password-free onboarding at a lower entry price fits

RecurPost onboards clients without passwords. The client receives an email or link invite, connects their own accounts and never shares credentials. RecurPost includes an approve-or-reject queue on every paid plan inside per-client workspaces, where Planoly offers view-only calendar sharing and no approval action at any price.

Sendible matches the onboarding with Client Connect, which handles password-free client setup the same way. Sendible starts at $29 per month, and its per-plan value thins toward 20 or more accounts.

HeyOrca goes furthest on the approval experience itself. HeyOrca prices per client workspace (free tier up to $126 per workspace) and builds each workspace around review rounds. HeyOrca also lacks X publishing, which sends X-carrying rosters back to the first group.

Vista Social includes approvals in its standard plans inside a broader agency feature set, at $79 for 15 profiles and 3 users.

An agency with zero X clients should pick HeyOrca here. An agency whose roster includes X or Google Business Profile lands on RecurPost, and Sendible matches the password-free onboarding at a lower entry price.

Approving client content over email because Planoly’s sharing is view-only? RecurPost runs a real approve-or-reject queue inside every client workspace.

You Need Analytics Beyond Instagram

Best matchMetricool
Choose Metricool whenCross-platform reporting and ads management matter more than more networks
Skip RecurPost hereNo competitor benchmarking and no audience demographics beyond platform basics

Metricool owns this group. Metricool’s free plan covers 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month. Metricool’s Starter covers 5 brands at $25 per month, or 10 brands at $45, with unlimited publishing, cross-platform reporting, Google Business Profile on every tier and ads management inside the same dashboard. Planoly’s beta analytics cover platform-level data for Instagram and Pinterest only, so a Metricool switch upgrades reporting on every other platform at once.

Vista Social reports across platforms with review management included, at a higher $79 entry.

RecurPost ships white-label reports and scheduled client reporting, which beats Planoly’s export-free beta, but RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking and no audience demographics beyond what platform APIs return. An analytics-first buyer should pick Metricool and skip the rest of this page.

Metricool at $25 for 10 brands settles this group. Vista Social justifies its premium only when review management or listening add-ons matter too.

You Want Cheap and Simple Across More Platforms

Best matchBuffer
Choose Buffer whenUnder roughly 10 channels with no client-approval needs
Choose Publer whenCheap plus volume matters more than cheap plus simple

Buffer wins this group, and most solo operators should start their shortlist here. Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Buffer Essentials costs $6 per channel per month on monthly billing ($5 annual) with unlimited scheduling, and Buffer publishes to X, Google Business Profile, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. The interface stays simpler than anything else on this page.

Buffer’s simplicity has hard edges. Buffer requires account credentials at connection, surfaces no error when a post fails, and gates approvals behind the Team plan at $12 per channel. Buffer also pushes the same content to every profile of a platform with no per-profile customization in one pass.

Publer plays the same budget role at roughly $5 to $10 per account per month with bulk tools included, and suits buyers who want cheap plus volume rather than cheap plus simple.

Buffer takes this group for anyone under roughly 10 channels with no client-approval needs. Past that point the per-channel math pushes agencies back to the set-model and approvals groups.

You Want to Stay Visual-First With More Room

Best matchLater, or Tailwind for Pinterest-led accounts
Choose Later whenGrid planning and polish matter, and no client needs X or GBP
Choose Tailwind whenPinterest drives your traffic
NoteBoth share Planoly’s X and GBP gaps — this switch buys room, not coverage

Later is the honest answer for a buyer who loves Planoly’s grid planning and just needs more accounts. Later Starter covers 8 profiles for $25 per month with polished Instagram planning, against Planoly Starter’s single set at $16. Later caps Starter publishing at 30 posts per profile per month and holds approvals until Growth at $50.

Later shares Planoly’s two biggest platform holes. Later has no X publishing and no Google Business Profile, so this switch buys room and polish rather than coverage.

Tailwind fits when Pinterest drives your traffic. Tailwind pairs Pinterest scheduling with Instagram and Facebook and covers nothing else.

Later earns this group for Instagram-first buyers whose roster carries no X and no local-business clients. Tailwind keeps a narrow win for Pinterest-led accounts.

You Need Social Listening or Enterprise Governance

Best matchSprout Social or Hootsuite
Choose either whenListening reports pay for themselves
Skip RecurPost and Planoly hereNeither has social listening or sentiment analysis at any price

Sprout Social and Hootsuite own this group. Sprout Social starts at $99 per seat per month on Essentials, with social listening sold as an add-on from the $199 Standard plan upward. Hootsuite runs $99 to $399 per user per month on annual billing with listening in its higher tiers. Agorapulse covers listening at a lower per-user price with strong inbox tooling. Vista Social sells listening as a $75 per month add-on.

RecurPost does not compete in this group. RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis, and neither does Planoly.

Sprout Social or Hootsuite is the pick when listening reports pay for themselves. Everyone else on this page should treat listening as a separate purchase.

Where RecurPost Falls Short

RecurPost’s gaps deserve the same bluntness as Planoly’s.

  • RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis.
  • RecurPost has no role-based permissions. Every invited team member gets full edit rights inside a workspace, so agencies enforce review discipline through the approval queue rather than through roles.
  • RecurPost’s interface is utilitarian. It handles large client rosters fine and wins no design awards doing it, and a buyer coming from Planoly’s grid-first planner will feel that shift.
  • RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking and no audience demographics beyond what platform APIs return.
  • RecurPost has no link-in-bio product and no storefront, so Planoly’s Linkit store and its zero-fee product sales have no RecurPost equivalent at all.
  • X posts beyond 280 characters require the client’s own X Premium subscription.

Agencies that switched anyway did it for account coverage and approvals. The RecurPost case studies show which rosters made that trade and why.

The Pricing Math, Both Ways

Planoly’s sticker prices sit low, and small rosters can leave for the wrong reason. The table shows the loaded numbers.

ToolBase plan (monthly billing)Social accounts includedWhat changes the real cost
Planoly Pro$556 social sets (1 account per platform per set)Extra set $8/mo; extra user $3/mo; X stays manual on every plan
RecurPost Agency$79203 team members included; extra account $4/mo; X and GBP included
Buffer Essentials$6 per channelPer channelApprovals need Team at $12/channel; 16 channels with approvals = $192/mo
Metricool Starter$255 brands at $25, 10 at $45 (1 brand = 1 client’s profiles)X publishing costs extra as an add-on
Later Starter$25830 posts per profile per month; no X, no GBP; approvals at $50
Vista Social Professional$7915X publishing adds $29/mo; listening adds $75/mo

Sources: Planoly, RecurPost, Buffer, Metricool, Later, and Vista Social. Verified July 16, 2026.

We checked the RecurPost, Buffer, Metricool, Later and Vista Social prices against vendor pricing pages on July 16, 2026, and the Planoly numbers against its pricing page the same day. Annual billing lowers most of them by roughly 12 to 25 percent.

Run the math in both directions.

A solo creator with one Instagram, one TikTok and one Pinterest account pays $16 on Planoly Starter, $0 on Buffer’s free plan and $13 on RecurPost (Starter at $9 plus one $4 account). Buffer wins on price alone. Planoly’s $16 still wins the moment the Linkit store earns more than $16 a month, because neither Buffer nor RecurPost sells anything for you.

A manager running six Instagram accounts needs Planoly Pro at $55 because six accounts on one platform means six sets. Later Starter holds all six inside 8 profiles for $25, and RecurPost Personal at $25 plus one $4 add-on reaches six for $29. Later wins this scenario by $4 a month if no client needs X or Google Business Profile.

A ten-account single-platform roster breaks the set model completely. Planoly needs Pro plus four extra sets, which totals $87. RecurPost covers 10 profiles on Personal plus five add-ons for $45, and Metricool Starter covers the same roster for $25 if each account counts as its own brand and X stays off the list.

The four-client agency from the top of this page, at 16 accounts with approvals, cannot price its workflow on Planoly at all because no Planoly plan approves anything. RecurPost Agency runs $79 with approvals in every client workspace. Buffer Team runs $192 for the same 16 channels. Vista Social runs $108 once the X add-on joins. HeyOrca prices those four clients per workspace and wins on approval depth if X drops off the roster.

When Staying on Planoly Is the Right Call

Planoly keeps four things nobody on this page fully replaces. The Linkit creator store sells digital and physical products with zero transaction fees. The DM automation that drives store sales works out of the box. The trend calendar pushes weekly content prompts with hashtags into your schedule. And the dedicated Instagram workspace, with its grid view, story analytics and quick-schedule flow, remains stronger for pure Instagram planning than most general schedulers.

A solo creator earning through the store should stay. RecurPost has no storefront and no link-in-bio product, and Buffer and Metricool sell nothing for you either. Switching would trade real income features for scheduling breadth a single-brand Instagram account rarely needs.

Where RecurPost Fits, and Where It Does Not

RecurPost fits the roster that broke Planoly. The four-client agency from the top of this page lands on RecurPost because every client’s X account publishes automatically with the wallet covering link fees, the bakery gets Google Business Profile posts with CTA buttons (Book, Call Now, Offer) and rejection monitoring, every client connects accounts through a password-free invite, and each client approves content inside a separate workspace instead of over email. RecurPost’s error handling covers 850+ documented platform failure types, so a failed post surfaces with a reason instead of dying silently. RecurPost also runs Instagram DM keyword automation with CTA buttons across the planner, where Planoly limits DM automation to its store.

RecurPost does not fit creators monetizing through a storefront, listening-driven agencies, or teams that need role-based permissions. Those buyers have better answers in the groups above. The RecurPost vs Planoly comparison walks both tools feature by feature if Planoly is your only other candidate. See the RecurPost social media scheduler in full before committing to any migration.

Moving Off Planoly

Planoly stores your media in its library, so download those files before canceling. Captions staged in Planoly’s calendar have no export path and need copying out by hand. RecurPost shortens the rebuild by importing your past posts straight from each connected social account, which recreates a working content library without any file shuffling. Budget an afternoon for a six-account roster.

Planoly Alternatives FAQs

Does Planoly Auto-Publish to X (Twitter)?

Planoly does not auto-publish to X on any plan. Planoly sends a phone reminder and you post manually. RecurPost, Buffer and Publer publish to X automatically on standard paid plans, Vista Social adds X for $29 per month, and Metricool sells X as an add-on from its Starter tier.

What Is a Planoly Social Set and How Many Accounts Does It Hold?

One Planoly social set holds at most one account per platform, up to seven auto-publishing accounts across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Threads. A second account on any platform needs a second set. Starter includes 1 set, Growth 2 and Pro 6, with extra sets at $10 per month on Growth and $8 on Pro.

Does Planoly Support Google Business Profile?

Planoly does not publish to Google Business Profile on any plan. RecurPost, Buffer, Metricool, Publer and Vista Social all publish to Google Business Profile, and RecurPost adds GBP CTA buttons (Book, Call Now, Offer) plus rejection monitoring on GBP posts.

Is There a Free Planoly Alternative?

Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Metricool’s free plan manages 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month, without X or LinkedIn publishing. HeyOrca offers a free single-workspace tier. Planoly’s own free option is a mobile-only plan capped at 10 uploads per month.

Which Planoly Alternative Is Cheapest for a Solo Creator?

Buffer costs the least for 3 or fewer channels (free) and stays cheap on Essentials at $6 per channel per month. RecurPost Starter covers 2 accounts for $9 per month with the full scheduler included. Publer prices at roughly $5 to $10 per account. Planoly Starter runs $16 per month for one social set, and the store features inside that price are what the cheaper tools lack.

Do Any Planoly Alternatives Include a Real Client Approval Workflow?

RecurPost includes an approve-or-reject queue on every paid plan inside per-client workspaces. HeyOrca builds its whole product around approval rounds, priced per client workspace. Sendible includes approvals with password-free onboarding via Client Connect. Buffer gates approvals behind Team at $12 per channel, and Later behind Growth at $50. Planoly offers view-only calendar sharing with no approval action.

What Does Switching From Planoly Cost at Six or More Instagram Accounts?

Six Instagram accounts require Planoly Pro at $55 per month because each set holds one Instagram account. Later Starter covers 8 profiles for $25, RecurPost reaches six profiles for $29 (Personal plus one add-on), and Metricool covers up to 10 brands for $45 on its Starter tier. Every one of those alternatives undercuts Planoly Pro at this roster shape.
