RecurPost Pinterest Hashtag Generator: Free AI Tool for Pin Descriptions

RecurPost’s Pinterest Hashtag Generator builds tags from a short description of your Pin. Describe the Pin, generate the list, and copy the tags into the description. No login and no payment are required.

Before you paste them in, one thing is worth knowing: Pinterest is the network where hashtags carry the least weight, and Pinterest says so by omission. The generator is one of RecurPost’s free tools, and RecurPost runs a matching hashtag generator for nine other platforms.

What it does

How RecurPost’s Pinterest Hashtag Generator Builds Pinterest Tags

RecurPost publishes a separate tuned URL per platform rather than one page with a platform dropdown, so each generator can be bookmarked and reused on its own. The Pinterest version is tuned toward search-oriented phrases, which is a different output shape from a reach-and-niche mix.

You give it a short description or keyword describing the Pin, and it returns Pinterest-weighted tags. The tool is free and needs no account.

An agency preparing a seasonal batch of forty Pins for a wedding services client gets the most out of it by generating per Pin theme rather than once for the whole batch: ten Pins about venue lighting and ten about stationery target different searches.

Step by step

How to Generate Pinterest Hashtags in Four Steps

Using RecurPost’s Pinterest Hashtag Generator takes four steps, and all four run free in the browser with no sign-up.

01

Describe the Pin

Type a short description or keyword for the Pin: the room, the material, the occasion, or the use case in the image.

02

Open Optional fields

Optional fields adds a keyword to carry into the set, a language (English, French, Spanish, German, or Italian), and a tone. Twenty-two tone presets are available.

03

Generate the list

RecurPost returns Pinterest-weighted tags in the results box below the form.

04

Keep the ones that survive the search test

One button copies the set. Keep only the tags that read as phrases a Pinner would type into the search bar, and put them at the end of the description.

Pinterest’s own search bar autocompletes with real queries, and no generator sees that data. Use the search bar for a client’s core phrases and the generator for volume around them.

Not transferable

Where a Pinterest Hashtag Set Does Not Transfer

The Pinterest Hashtag Generator is one of eight free tools published alongside RecurPost’s social media scheduler, each built to prepare a post before it is scheduled. RecurPost runs a matching hashtag generator for nine other platforms, because tags written as search phrases for a Pin description rarely suit another network unchanged. The four below differ from Pinterest most sharply. Bluesky and Google Business Profile run their own generators as well, and the Hashtag Generator hub lists all ten side by side with the limit each one works to.

TikTok reads only the first five hashtags in a caption, so a TikTok set is built to fill five slots rather than to add searchable language to a description.

YouTube picks up to three of the hashtags in a description to show above the video title, choosing them itself, so a YouTube set is written for that judgement rather than for how a searcher phrases a query.

Threads applies a single topic tag per post, so a Pinterest set’s several search phrases collapse to one choice.

LinkedIn reads tags as topic labels for the algorithm rather than as search phrases. LinkedIn publishes no hashtag limit; three to five accurate labels is the working range.

Checking the destination before reusing a set fits any agency or freelancer running two or more platforms per client. A creator pinning only to Pinterest can stay on this page and skip the rest.

From tags to schedule

Moving Generated Tags Into a Scheduled Pin

RecurPost schedules Pins with a custom title, description, and destination link, so the keyword work you just did survives to publish. The composer also writes a different description per network from a single post, which is what matters at agency scale: one campaign can go to six client accounts with a keyword-led Pinterest description and a different treatment elsewhere, from the same composed post. RecurPost’s Pinterest scheduler handles bulk Pin uploads and queueing.

RecurPost also documents more than 850 platform error types, so a Pin that fails on a description length, an image spec, or a token problem surfaces with a readable reason instead of sitting silently in the queue. Inside the product, per-network post customisation handles the same job at scheduling time and reports and analytics show what the Pins did.

No credit card. One composer covers a full client mix, so a keyword-led Pin description moves into a scheduled Pin rather than into an intermediate spreadsheet.

The boundary

What to Write in a Pin Description Instead of a Tag Block

Where a few tags fit

Hashtags fit a Pin when each one reads as a phrase a Pinner would actually type. #modernfarmhousekitchen is a search phrase with a hash in front of it; #pinspiration is not. Three to five at the end of the description is the practical ceiling, and zero is a legitimate choice.

Where a pasted block does not

A twenty-five-tag block inherited from an older caption workflow costs roughly three hundred of the eight hundred description characters Pinterest gives you, and Pinterest reads that description looking for language. It finds a tag list. The same space spent on the materials, styles, and use cases in the image matches how people search.

Where to skip them entirely

Pinterest does not report performance by hashtag, so an agency can show a client Pin-level impressions, saves, outbound clicks, and the boards that drove them, but cannot attribute any of it to a tag. Skip tags when the description already reads as searchable copy; keep a small number when a client tracks a branded campaign tag across several networks and wants Pinterest included for reporting consistency.

Three jobs

Hashtags Are Not a Pin Description or a Pin Title

Hashtags add a few search phrases at the end of the description. That is this tool’s only job.

The description is the language Pinterest actually indexes. RecurPost’s Pinterest post generator writes that one.

The title carries a hundred characters above it. RecurPost’s Pinterest title generator handles those.

RecurPost splits the three jobs across separate free tools, each running under the same no-sign-up rule, and you can reach the full set from RecurPost’s free tools hub.

Pinterest Hashtag Generator FAQs

Do hashtags still work on Pinterest?

Hashtags have a much smaller role on Pinterest than on a discovery-led network. Pinterest’s own documentation reflects that: the Creative Best Practices page covers Pin titles and descriptions without mentioning hashtags, and the Pin performance and distribution help article tells you to put relevant keywords in the Pin title, Pin description, board title, board description, and website URL.

Three to five is a practical ceiling for most Pins, and using none is also a valid choice. Pinterest publishes no hashtag limit; the constraint that binds is the 800-character Pin description, so every tag reduces the space available for searchable text.

Yes. RecurPost’s Pinterest Hashtag Generator is free to use and does not require an account. The paid product is the scheduler behind it, which publishes the Pin, keeps the description and destination link intact, and reports on what the Pin did afterwards.

Put them at the end of the description, after the main text. Pinterest has no first-comment convention, and because Pinterest indexes the description directly, keeping tags at the end preserves the readability of the keyword-led copy.

Yes. RecurPost schedules Pins with your chosen title, description, destination link, and board, and lets you write a Pinterest-specific description that differs from the version you publish elsewhere.

No. RecurPost reports Pinterest performance at the Pin and account level, because Pinterest does not expose hashtag-level data. You get impressions, saves, outbound clicks, and board-level context for each scheduled Pin.
