RecurPost Instagram Post Generator

Free AI Captions Built to Instagram's Limits

Caption writing consumes the time that agencies and freelancers bill for strategy, reporting, and client reviews. Every account on a roster carries its own brand voice, so one caption template fails across a multi-client portfolio.

RecurPost’s Instagram Post Generator converts a short business description into a complete Instagram caption at no cost, in 4 steps:
– Describe the business or topic
– Select a tone
– Generate the caption
– Copy the output

Tone selection covers professional, playful, motivational, and casual registers, which protects each client’s established voice. The generator permits unlimited regeneration, so a caption that misses the brief is replaced in one click.

Learn the four Instagram caption rules a generated caption has to clear. See how captions change across feed posts, carousels, Reels and Stories. Get the four steps from a topic to an edited caption, and how a caption reaches a scheduled Instagram post. Find out when the free tool fits and when it doesn’t.

Instagram Caption Rules

Instagram Caption Rules the Generated Caption Has to Clear

Every generated caption has to clear four Instagram rules before it enters a client calendar. These rules govern caption length, feed visibility, hashtag volume, and link behaviour. Each rule operates independently, so a caption that satisfies three of them still fails on the fourth:

Rule

Limit

What it means

Caption length

2,200 characters

The count includes spaces, line breaks, emojis, and hashtags. A caption that exceeds the ceiling returns a publishing error instead of a shortened post.

Feed visibility

First ~125 characters

The feed hides the remainder behind a "more" link, so the opening line carries the hook, the offer, or the question that earns the tap.

Hashtag cap

5 per post and Reel

Instagram reduced the ceiling from 30 to 5 in December 2025. The cap applies to the caption and the comments combined, and Instagram blocks publication or strips the surplus tags.

Links and mentions

Links never clickable

A URL inside an Instagram caption renders as plain text. An @ mention links to the referenced account and notifies it. Workable calls to action point to the bio link, a Story link sticker, or a comment-to-DM trigger.

A generated caption is ready for a client calendar once it satisfies all four rules simultaneously: the character count remains under 2,200, the hook occupies the first 125 characters, the hashtag count stays at 5 or fewer, and the call to action points outside the caption.

Any generated caption arriving with a 20-tag or 30-tag block requires manual reduction before scheduling. Relocating a tag block to the first comment creates no additional slots, because the caption and the comments share the same 5-hashtag cap.
Edit Before You Schedule

The Checks RecurPost's Generator Leaves to You

RecurPost’s generator cannot finish the final step on its own. It does not know the client’s offer, the campaign date, the client’s name, or the result the last post produced. Write those in first, then run four checks before the caption ships:

4 CHECKS BEFORE THE CAPTION SHIPS

The first line reads on its own, under 125 characters

The hashtag count stays at 5 or fewer, counting the first comment

The call to action does not depend on a caption link

Every @ mention points at a real account

WHAT THE DRAFT STILL NEEDS FROM YOU

The client's offer

The campaign date

The client's name

The result the last post produced

RecurPost’s four-step flow suits batch work across a client roster. It does not suit publishing straight out of the generator.
An Instagram draft carries no offer, no date, and no proof until someone puts them there. The generator writes the structure; the specifics are yours to add.
What the Generator Writes

What RecurPost's Instagram Post Generator Writes

RecurPost’s Instagram post generator produces a complete Instagram caption from two inputs:
1. A short description of the business, the product, or the post topic
2. The tone the caption carries

Keywords are entered through the same description field, so the output follows the terms supplied. Tone selection determines the caption – select a register from the presets:

Professional

Playful

Motivational

Casual

The generator writes according to Instagram’s format rather than to a generic social template. Instagram permits 2,200 characters per caption, and the tool adjusts output length according to the selected tone and content type. RecurPost’s guidance places concise captions at 125 characters or fewer and detailed captions between 300 and 500 characters.

Each click of the generate control returns one caption, and regeneration carries no usage cap. A manager assembles a shortlist of variants for a single topic in one session, then selects the strongest option for editing.

This generator covers Instagram alone. RecurPost operates a separate generator for each of the eight remaining networks – Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business Profile, and Bluesky. Every version applies the character rules of its own network, and all nine appear on RecurPost’s Post Generator page.

The generator writes about the topic it receives, and it does not choose that topic itself. Content planning, campaign sequencing, and client strategy remain with the agency. The output functions as a first draft for editing, not as a finished deliverable for a client calendar.

Instagram Formats

Feed Posts, Carousels, Reels and Stories Take Different Captions

RecurPost publishes four Instagram formats, and each format assigns the caption a different job: feed posts, carousels, Reels, and Stories.

The feed caption carries the complete message and the hashtag block. This format treats the caption as the primary text surface, so generated output transfers into it with the least editing. The first 125 characters still carry the hook, because the feed hides the remainder behind a "more" link.

The carousel caption changed materially on 18 June 2026, when Instagram introduced a Multiple captions toggle. A carousel now accepts either one shared caption or a separate caption for every slide, up to 20 captions. Instagram applies the toggle to new carousels only, so a published carousel cannot be converted afterwards. A single shared caption functions as an entry point rather than a description of slide one. RecurPost publishes up to 10 images or videos per scheduled carousel, and media beyond the tenth does not publish.

The Reel caption competes with the video for attention, which rewards a short caption over a complete one. RecurPost schedules a Reel as an Instagram Trial Reel, and Instagram shows a Trial Reel to non-followers first. The caption therefore addresses an audience without brand familiarity, so internal shorthand and unexplained references fail. Graduation to followers operates on a manual or automatic setting inside RecurPost.

Instagram Stories carry no caption field, because Stories place text on the screen through the text tool and stickers. Generated copy accordingly reduces to a few words. RecurPost auto-publishes Stories to Instagram Business profiles, and each auto-published Story carries a single image or video. Creator accounts and personal profiles receive a mobile reminder instead, so the text is entered on the phone.

The generator returns one caption per request, so a message shipping in three formats requires three generation passes. Tone selection changes between those passes, which separates a feed post from a Reel. The generator reduces drafting time, and it does not remove the format rewrite.

Generator to Scheduler

From a Generated Caption to a Scheduled Instagram Post

The generated caption enters RecurPost’s composer as one field, and the composer supplies the rest of the Instagram post: media, tags, the first comment, the scheduling time, and Instagram-only publishing options. A generated caption becomes a scheduled post without leaving the composer.

RecurPost’s Instagram Scheduler earns the handoff once captions reach more than one Instagram account on a fixed schedule, or when someone other than the writer approves the work. A single caption published by hand on a single account requires neither, and the free generator on this page covers that case.

Tags at compose time

RecurPost's composer applies people tags, product tags, collaborator tags, and location tags to both images and Reels at compose time. The first comment is published with the hashtag block the moment the post goes live, which keeps the visible caption clean, and the Instagram grid calendar previews the client's profile beforehand.

Reels audio picker

RecurPost's audio picker browses Instagram's Trending, Music, and Original sounds feeds through Meta's Audio API with preview playback. Separate volume sliders mix the selected track against the original video sound on a 0 to 100 scale each. The picker requires a Business or Creator account connected through Facebook login.

Media handling and retries

RecurPost's image editor carries Instagram crop presets for the 4:5 feed and for 9:16 Stories and Reels; an over-tall image receives white padding instead of a crop. Video uploads first, Instagram gets roughly 3 minutes of processing time, and a "media not ready" response triggers up to 10 further attempts. Only after recovery fails does the post display a named error from RecurPost's 850+ error catalog, with its cause and its fix.

Client access without passwords

The agency invites the client by email or link, and the client authorizes the Instagram account personally. No Instagram password changes hands at any stage. The client then approves the queue, approvals are included on every paid plan from $9 per month, and bulk scheduling imports up to 250 posts per CSV.

Caption Generator Step-by-Step

Generate an Instagram Caption in Four Steps

These are the four steps from a blank field to an Instagram caption ready for a client calendar:

Describe the Post Topic

Describe the business, the product, or the topic the Instagram post is about.

Pick the Tone

Pick the tone the caption should carry to match the client's brand voice.

Generate and Compare

Generate, then read the caption options side by side instead of regenerating one at a time.

Edit and Check the Limits

Edit the one that fits, then check it against Instagram's limits before it enters the calendar.

Note: RecurPost’s generator cannot finish step four. It does not know the client’s offer, the campaign date, the client’s name, or the result the last post produced. Write those first, then run the four checks above before the caption ships.
When to Use the Generator

When the Free Instagram Post Generator Fits and When It Doesn't

Agencies do test free tools as a proxy for product quality, and that is a fair use of this page. RecurPost’s Instagram generator tests the copy and nothing else. RecurPost handles approvals, client workspaces, and failed-post recovery inside the product, where publish day actually happens. RecurPost social media management software covers how those pieces work together across a client roster.

RecurPost treats the caption as one part of a finished Instagram post. The media sized for the format and the scheduled slot are the other two, and RecurPost handles both in the composer and the calendar. The rest of RecurPost’s free social media tools cover the pieces a caption does not.

FIT FOR

First drafts, when the empty Instagram calendar is the real problem

One-off Instagram posts that do not justify opening a scheduler

Caption options batched across several client Instagram accounts in one sitting

Agencies testing output quality on a live client brief before they book a demo

NOT FIT FOR

An Instagram content plan - the generator writes about a topic you choose, and it does not choose the topic

Publishing without an edit pass

Recurring volume across several client accounts, where copying each caption out by hand becomes the cost

Any caption that needs a real number, a real date, or a real client result

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Instagram Post Generator FAQs

Is RecurPost's Instagram post generator free?

RecurPost’s Instagram post generator is free and runs with no signup. You open the page, describe the topic, pick a tone, and take the caption. Generate again as often as the drafts need.

Instagram caps a caption at 2,200 characters, and the feed shows roughly the first 125 before hiding the rest behind "more". RecurPost’s Instagram post generator writes inside that limit.

Instagram allows 5 hashtags per post and Reel, a cap reduced from 30 in December 2025. Hashtags in the comments count against the same 5, so moving a tag block to the first comment creates no extra room. RecurPost flags a post that goes over the cap in the composer instead of letting it fail after the scheduled slot.

Agencies use RecurPost’s generated Instagram captions as first drafts. Add the client’s offer, the campaign date, the client’s name, and the result you are pointing at before the caption ships. RecurPost’s generator knows none of those four.

RecurPost’s Instagram post generator writes caption copy for any Instagram format, and each format uses it differently. A carousel caption covers every slide at once. A Reel caption front-loads and stops early. An Instagram Story takes on-screen text rather than a caption field.

RecurPost’s free Instagram post generator returns copy, not a scheduled post. Scheduling, people and product tagging, and first-comment publishing all happen inside RecurPost after the caption pastes into the composer.
