Instagram Post Generator
RecurPost’s Instagram Post Generator turns a short description of a business, a product, or a topic into a complete Instagram caption. You can use the tool directly on this page without creating an account, providing your email address, or paying a fee.
Agencies and freelancers open it when a client’s Instagram calendar is empty and the next post has to go out today. Instagram enforces limits that most networks do not, and RecurPost’s generator writes inside them. The draft still needs an edit pass before it reaches a client calendar. It is one of RecurPost’s free tools.

What RecurPost’s Instagram Post Generator Writes
RecurPost’s Instagram post generator produces a complete Instagram caption from two inputs. The first is a short description of the business, the product, or the post topic. The second is the tone the caption should carry. Keywords go into the same description field, so the output uses the terms you supply.
Tone selection covers professional, playful, motivational, and casual registers, which lets one generator serve accounts with opposing brand voices. Agencies fix the voice decision at the input stage instead of correcting it during editing. Each click of the generate control returns one caption, and regeneration carries no usage cap, so a manager can assemble a shortlist of variants for a single topic in one session.
The generator writes about the topic it receives, and it does not choose that topic. Content planning, campaign sequencing, and client strategy stay with the agency, which makes the output a first draft for editing rather than a finished deliverable for a client calendar.
Instagram’s maximum caption length, counting spaces, line breaks, emojis, and hashtags against the same budget.
The feed hides everything after roughly the first 125 characters behind a “more” link, so the opening line does the work.

Instagram Caption Rules the Generated Caption Has to Clear
Every generated caption has to clear four Instagram rules before it enters a client calendar. The rules govern caption length, feed visibility, hashtag volume, and link behaviour. Each one operates independently, so a caption that satisfies three of them still fails on the fourth.
2,200 characters maximum. The count includes spaces, line breaks, emojis, and hashtags, so decorative formatting spends the same budget as body copy. A caption over the ceiling returns a publishing error instead of a shortened post.
Roughly the first 125 characters show before a “more” link hides the rest. The opening line carries the hook, the offer, or the question that earns the tap, so a caption that opens with a warm-up sentence loses its argument.
5 hashtags per post and Reel, reduced from 30 in December 2025. The cap covers caption and comments together, so moving a tag block to the first comment buys no extra slots. A generated caption arriving with a 20-tag or 30-tag block needs manual reduction.
A URL inside a caption renders as plain text and never becomes clickable. An @ mention does link to the account and notifies it, so workable calls to action point to the bio link, a Story link sticker, or a comment-to-DM trigger.
Feed Posts, Carousels, Reels and Stories Take Different Captions
RecurPost publishes four Instagram formats directly, and each one assigns the caption a different job. The generator returns one caption per request, so a message shipping in three formats takes three generation passes with the tone changed between them.
The feed caption carries the complete message and the hashtag block, which makes it the format generated output transfers into with the least editing. The first 125 characters still carry the hook, because the feed hides the remainder behind a “more” link.
Instagram added a Multiple captions toggle on 18 June 2026, so a carousel takes either one shared caption or a separate caption for every slide, up to 20. The toggle applies to new carousels only. RecurPost publishes up to 10 images or videos per scheduled carousel.
The Reel caption competes with the video for attention, which rewards a short caption over a complete one. RecurPost schedules a Reel as an Instagram Trial Reel, and Instagram shows a Trial Reel to non-followers first, so internal shorthand and unexplained references fail.
Stories place text on the screen through the text tool and stickers rather than in a caption field, so generated copy reduces to a few words. RecurPost auto-publishes Stories to Instagram Business profiles. Creator accounts and personal profiles get a mobile reminder instead.
An agency running a product launch for a retail client publishes the same message as a feed post, then as a five-slide carousel, then as a Reel. One generated caption reused across all three reads as filler in two of them. Tone selection is what separates a feed caption from a Reel caption, so the generator cuts drafting time without removing the format rewrite.
Generate an Instagram Caption in Four Steps
The generator on this page runs in four steps, and all four run free in the browser with no sign-up. RecurPost completes the first three quickly. The fourth is yours, because the tool does not know your client’s offer, the campaign date, the client’s name, or the result the last post produced.
Describe the topic
Enter the business, the product, or the topic the Instagram post is about. A short description is enough for the generator to work from.
Choose the tone
Pick the tone the caption should carry from the professional, playful, motivational, and casual registers, and add any keywords it should include.
Generate and compare
RecurPost returns Instagram caption options with hashtags, and regeneration carries no usage cap, so you can read a shortlist side by side.
Edit, then check
Add the offer, the date, the client’s name, and the client-specific proof, then check the caption against the four Instagram rules above before it goes live.
RecurPost’s generator leaves four checks to you, and every one maps to a rule above. The opening line has to carry the hook on its own. The hashtag block has to sit inside Instagram’s cap. The call to action cannot depend on a caption link. And every @ mention has to point at a real account.
An account manager onboarding a restaurant client can generate one caption for each week of the launch month, then write that week’s menu item into each one. The four-step flow suits batch work across a client roster. It does not suit publishing straight out of the generator, because an Instagram draft carries no offer, no date, and no proof until someone puts them there.
From a Generated Caption to a Scheduled Instagram Post
The generated caption enters RecurPost’s composer as one field, and the composer supplies everything Instagram needs around it: the media, the tags, the first comment, the scheduling slot, and the Instagram-only publishing options. People, product, collaborator, and location tags all apply at compose time rather than after publish, for both images and Reels. The hashtag block publishes as the first comment the moment the post goes live, which keeps a long tag list out of the visible caption.
RecurPost checks every Instagram post against a catalog of more than 850 documented platform errors before it reaches Instagram, and a post that fails is retried automatically instead of sitting silently in a queue. Client access works by invitation rather than credential sharing, so the agency invites the client by email or link, the client authorizes their own Instagram account, and no Instagram password changes hands.
The editing side of that work lives in RecurPost’s compose workflow, where AI drafting, per-platform tailoring, and media prep happen in one editor. The calendar side lives in scheduling and recycling, which covers the content calendar, bulk imports of up to 250 posts per CSV, and evergreen rotation. RecurPost’s Instagram scheduler earns the handoff once captions have to reach more than one Instagram account on a fixed schedule, or once someone other than the writer approves the work.
No credit card. One composer covers a full client mix, so a generated Instagram caption moves into a scheduled post rather than into an intermediate spreadsheet.
When the Free Instagram Post Generator Fits and When It Doesn’t
RecurPost’s free Instagram post generator fits a first draft when the client’s Instagram calendar is blank. It fits one-off Instagram posts that do not justify opening a scheduler. It fits caption options batched across several client Instagram accounts in one sitting. And it fits agencies testing output quality on a live client brief before they book a demo.
It does not build an Instagram content plan, because the generator writes about the topic you choose rather than choosing the topic. It does not fit publishing without an edit pass. It does not fit recurring volume across several client accounts, where copying each caption out by hand becomes the cost. And it does not fit any caption that needs a real number, a real date, or a real client result.
A generated caption is one field. It arrives with no media sized for the format, no people or product tags, no first comment, and no scheduled slot, and an Instagram post is not finished without those four. Each one is set in RecurPost’s composer and calendar rather than in a browser tool.
Where the Caption Sits Within an Instagram Post
The generator on this page writes the caption, and that is the one piece it owns. You copy the result out and edit it before it reaches a client calendar.
Instagram sizes a feed image, a carousel slide, a Reel, and a Story differently. RecurPost’s image editor carries the 4:5 feed and the 9:16 Story and Reel crop presets, and it pads an oversized image with white space rather than cropping the subject out.
The scheduled time and the grid position are the third piece. RecurPost’s Instagram grid calendar previews the client’s profile before anything publishes, so the feed layout is confirmed in advance.
RecurPost treats the caption as one part of a finished Instagram post, and the media and the slot are the other two. RecurPost social media scheduler covers how all three work together across a client roster. The rest of RecurPost’s free social media tools cover the pieces a caption does not.
Instagram Post Generator FAQs
Is RecurPost’s Instagram post generator free?
Yes. RecurPost’s Instagram post generator is free and runs with no signup. You open the page, describe the topic, pick a tone, and take the caption. If the first draft misses the brief, generate another until you have a version you can use.
How long can an Instagram caption be?
Instagram caps a caption at 2,200 characters, and the feed shows roughly the first 125 before hiding the rest behind a “more” link. RecurPost’s Instagram post generator writes inside that limit.
How many hashtags can an Instagram caption carry?
Instagram allows 5 hashtags per post and Reel, a cap it reduced from 30 in December 2025. RecurPost flags a caption that goes over the cap in the composer instead of letting the post fail after the scheduled slot passes.
Can an agency use generated captions on client Instagram accounts?
Yes, as first drafts. Add the client’s offer, the campaign date, the client’s name, and the specific result the caption points at before it ships. RecurPost’s generator has access to none of those four.
Does the generator write captions for Reels and carousels as well as feed posts?
Yes. RecurPost’s Instagram post generator writes caption copy for any Instagram format, and each format uses it differently. A carousel caption covers every slide at once, unless you use Instagram’s per-slide captions. A Reel caption front-loads and stops early. An Instagram Story takes on-screen text rather than a caption field.
Can the generator schedule the Instagram post it writes?
No. RecurPost’s free Instagram post generator returns copy, not a scheduled post. Scheduling, people and product tagging, and first-comment publishing all happen inside RecurPost after the caption pastes into the composer.
20 social accounts. 3 team members. One publishing queue.
If you manage Instagram for more than one client, RecurPost’s Agency plan covers 20 social accounts for $79 per month, with 3 team members included and no per-seat charge. Extra social accounts cost $4 per month each.
