Facebook Page Name Generator
One keyword. A Page name and a handle that actually works
RecurPost’s Facebook Page Name Generator produces two outputs from a single keyword: display name suggestions for a Facebook Page, and handle-safe versions of each suggestion. Facebook treats these as separate fields, and each one follows a different set of naming rules.

A Facebook Page name and a Facebook username are two different things.
Every Facebook Page has two names. The Page name is the display name that appears on the Page and in users’ feeds. The Facebook username is the handle that forms the Page’s web address, such as facebook.com/yourhandle. It is also the name people use after the @ symbol to tag the Page.
Rule
Facebook Page name
Facebook username
Unique across Facebook
No. Two Pages can share one display name.
Yes. First Page to claim it owns it.
Characters allowed
Spaces, mixed case, most punctuation
Letters, numbers and periods only
Takes effect
After Facebook reviews the change
Immediately, once the field validates
Where it shows
The Page, the feed, every published post
The Page URL and the @mention string
Example: an agency onboarding a 3-location dental group can give all 3 Pages the display name Northside Dental, because Facebook allows shared display names. However, only one Page can use northsidedental as its username. The rest need variations such as northsidedental.westend and northsidedental.riverside.
The rules that decide whether a generated name is usable.
Facebook may reject a name that looks valid in a generator, because the approval rules differ for Facebook usernames and Facebook Page names.
USERNAME RULES
5 to 50 characters, letters, numbers and periods only
No spaces, underscores or hyphens
At least one letter - numbers alone are not valid
Cannot begin or end with a period, or use consecutive periods
No domain extensions - northsidedental.com is not a handle
PAGE NAME RULES
No display name that is only a generic category, such as Dentist or Bakery
No false claims of official status
No excessive capitalization
No unnecessary symbols or decorative punctuation
Most name changes go through review before they are approved
Two inputs: a keyword and a naming style.
The keyword can be a brand name, an owner’s name, or a niche term such as “sourdough bakery.” The style shapes both the display name and the username suggestions — and not every result fits Facebook’s username rules.
Short
Two or three syllables, one or two words
Handle outcome: Safest. Fits the 50-character ceiling with room for a location suffix
Professional
Formal, business-register names
Handle outcome: Safe. Usually clean to convert to a handle
Descriptive
Names that state the service and the place
Handle outcome: Risky. Often too long, and reads keyword-stuffed to Facebook’s reviewers
Casual
Conversational, informal names
Handle outcome: Fine for consumer brands, weak for B2B and regulated clients
Trendy
Current-sounding names
Handle outcome: Dates fastest. Costly on a Page you cannot easily rename later
Descriptive returns “Miller Street Artisan Sourdough Bakery” – fine as a display name, too long for a practical username. Short returns “Miller Street Bakery,” which converts cleanly to millerstreetbakery with room for a second location.
Facebook Page Name Generator
Check that the name and the handle are actually free.
A generated Facebook Page name has little value until you confirm that the matching username is also available. Check it in two ways.
- Open facebook.com/thehandle in a browser to see whether another Page already uses it.
- Enter the same username in the Page’s username field — Facebook validates it on submission and returns the final availability status.
Some new Pages cannot claim a username immediately and show “This Page isn’t eligible to have a username” until the eligibility conditions are met.

The name stops being a branding decision the moment you schedule.
The Page name appears in every published post, every @mention from a partner brand, and the header of every client report. The username appears in the Page URL, which clients use in their Instagram bio, ad destinations, and link-in-bio entries. Changing either one later means updating every place it appears.
Identify the right Page
RecurPost lists every connected account by display name. A multi-location client with 8 Pages all named "Harbor Coffee" leaves you 8 identical options in the composer.
Add a branch qualifier
"Harbor Coffee Westend" and "Harbor Coffee Riverside" stay easy to identify while publishing and clear in client reports. Skip the qualifier for single-Page clients.
Pair it with custom fields
Assign account-specific values — business name, phone number, location — so one source post publishes across all 8 Pages with the correct details for each.
No passwords. One intake session.
Naming a Page you do not own adds two extra steps: the client must approve the name, and you need access without their Facebook password. RecurPost lets the client connect their Page through an invitation link and approve it on Facebook’s own permission screen.
Shortlist display names
Generate a shortlist using the short or professional style.
Check every handle
Check each handle on Facebook and every other social network the client uses.
Get written approval
Get the client's written approval for both the display name and the handle.
Submit the name change
Submit the Facebook Page name change and wait for Facebook to approve it.
Claim and connect
Claim the handle, then connect the Page through the invitation link.
Some Pages should not be renamed at all.
An agency inherited a Page with 12,000 followers still using the founder’s personal name. It kept the recognized display name and claimed a clean username matching the client’s other networks – recognition intact, consistency improved.
KEEP THE NAME
The client operates under a registered or trademarked business name
The Page has years of publishing history and an audience that recognizes it
Facebook has already rejected a previous Page name change request
A cleaner URL is the only reason for renaming a well-known Page
GENERATE A NEW NAME
The Facebook Page is brand new
The business itself has genuinely rebranded
The current name no longer reflects what the business does
You only need a username variant - keep the display name and generate the handle
Pages, Groups and profiles do not share a rulebook.
Facebook Groups
An admin can change a Group name without the review process that applies to Pages. However, Groups do not have a username or handle.
Personal profiles
Profile usernames follow the same character rules as Pages, but the profile name must comply with Facebook's real-name policy — a generated brand name is not suitable.
How RecurPost publishes
Facebook allows direct API publishing only for Pages, so RecurPost publishes to Groups and personal profiles through push notifications in the mobile app.

The Agency plan supports 20 social accounts for $79 per month with no per-user seat charges, and extra profiles cost $4 per account per month. Plans start at $9 per month with 2 social accounts. Publish to Pages, Groups and profiles from a single composer.
Facebook Page Naming FAQs
What is the difference between a Facebook Page name and a Facebook username?
A Facebook Page name is the display name that appears on the Page and in users’ feeds. In contrast, a Facebook username is the unique handle that forms the Page’s address, such as facebook.com/yourhandle, and the name people use to @mention the Page. While multiple Facebook Pages can share the same display name, each username must be unique across Facebook. Furthermore, Facebook reviews Page name changes before approving them, whereas a username takes effect as soon as Facebook validates it.
What characters can a Facebook Page username contain?
A Facebook Page username can contain letters, numbers, and periods, and it must be between 5 and 50 characters long. In addition, every username must include at least one letter. Plus, it cannot begin or end with a period, and cannot contain two consecutive periods. Furthermore, periods and capitalization do not create unique usernames, so northside.dental and northsidedental are treated as the same handle. [NEEDS VERIFICATION against Meta’s Help Centre before publishing.]
How long does a Facebook Page name change take to be approved?
A Facebook Page name change can take anywhere from a few hours to several business days because Facebook reviews every request before approving it. Furthermore, Pages with large audiences and a long publishing history often receive closer review, so significant name changes are more likely to face delays or rejection. Therefore, submit the name change before building the publishing calendar, as the Page continues publishing under the existing name until Facebook completes the review.
Can two Facebook Pages have the same name?
Yes, two Facebook Pages can use the same display name because Facebook does not require Page names to be unique. As a result, franchise businesses and multi-location brands often operate several Facebook Pages under the same business name. However, Facebook usernames follow a different rule because only one Page can claim a specific handle. Therefore, multi-location businesses usually need unique username variations for each Page.
Should a client's Facebook handle match their Instagram and TikTok handles?
Yes, a client’s Facebook handle should match their Instagram and TikTok handles whenever the same username is available across all 3 platforms. Consistent usernames make the brand easier to recognize and keep cross-network reporting more consistent. However, check the username on every social network before claiming it because a handle that is available on Facebook may already be taken elsewhere. Since RecurPost supports publishing to 10 social networks, this decision affects the client’s connected social presence rather than Facebook alone.
Does the Facebook Page Name Generator also name Facebook Groups?
RecurPost’s Facebook Page Name Generator is designed for Facebook Pages because Facebook Groups follow different naming rules. While a Group name can be changed by an admin without going through the Page review process, Facebook Groups do not use username handles. Therefore, the generated display name suggestions can still work as Group name ideas, but the handle variations do not apply.
Can an agency change a client's Facebook Page name without the client's password?
Yes, an agency can change a client’s Facebook Page name without accessing the client’s password, provided the client has granted the required Page permissions. RecurPost supports the same workflow by allowing the client to authorize the Facebook Page through an invitation link on Facebook’s own permission screen. As a result, the agency can manage the Page without collecting or storing the client’s login credentials.
When should a Facebook Page keep its existing name?
A Facebook Page should keep its existing name when the business operates under a registered business name, when the Page already has an audience that recognizes it, or when Facebook has previously rejected a name change request. However, generate a new Page name when the Page is new or when the business itself has changed. In every other situation, keep the existing display name and generate only a suitable username variation, because this approach preserves existing recognition while improving handle consistency.
