Meltwater alternatives sort by the module that produced real work last quarter. RecurPost publishes this page, and RecurPost replaces one Meltwater module: social publishing. RecurPost is the closest fit for two of the six switching triggers below and stays off the shortlist in the other four.
Meltwater publishes no prices. Meltwater quotes every contract through sales, runs a minimum 12-month term, and bundles its modules into one tailored annual agreement. Those modules are Media Intelligence, Social Listening, Media Relations, Influencer Marketing, and AI Visibility Tracking. Third-party procurement benchmarks put the median Meltwater contract near $25,000 per year. Single-market teams are commonly quoted $15,000 to $25,000, and multi-team deployments reach $60,000 or more.
Each switching trigger below points at its own closest fit.
| The reason you are leaving | Closest fit | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| You still need media monitoring and PR outreach | Brandwatch or CisionOne, or stay on Meltwater | Quote-only |
| You need social listening, not a clipping service | Sprout Social or Hootsuite | $99/user/mo |
| You want listening plus publishing on one mid-market bill | Vista Social | $79/mo plus add-ons |
| Your enterprise team pays per seat and hates it | Emplifi | $1,249/mo, unlimited seats |
| You are downsizing to social publishing operations | RecurPost, or Metricool for analytics-led downsizes | RecurPost Agency $79/mo for 20 accounts; Metricool free for 1 brand |
| Your client review chain has to survive the downsize | RecurPost, or Vista Social when listening matters too | RecurPost Agency $79/mo for 20 accounts; Vista Social $154/mo loaded |
Each tool in that table loses somewhere, and the groups below name where. Meltwater alternatives are media-intelligence and social media management platforms that replace some combination of Meltwater’s monitoring, PR outreach, social listening, and publishing modules. No single replacement sells Meltwater’s full bundle, so the right tool depends on which Meltwater modules your team actually used. See the alternatives at a glance.
Meltwater Alternatives and Competitors at a Glance
Nine tools on this page replace at least one Meltwater module. The table below names the team each one fits.
| # | Tool | Closest fit for | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Brandwatch | Enterprise listening and consumer intelligence with online news coverage | Quote-only, annual |
| 2 | CisionOne | Journalist database work and PR outreach | Quote-only, annual |
| 3 | Sprout Social | Mid-market inbox depth paired with AI listening | $199/seat/mo (Standard, annual) |
| 4 | Hootsuite | Talkwalker-powered listening when account count matters more than inbox depth | $99/user/mo (annual, 10 accounts) |
| 5 | Agorapulse | Conversation monitoring and sentiment at a lower entry point | $99/user/mo ($79 annual) |
| 6 | Vista Social | Listening plus publishing on one transparent mid-market bill | $79/mo (15 profiles, 2 users); listening plus $75/mo |
| 7 | Emplifi | Unlimited seats once an enterprise team passes roughly 8 people | $1,249/mo flat (Essential) |
| 8 | RecurPost | Downsizing to publishing operations with staged approvals and per-workspace roles | Agency $79/mo for 20 accounts and 3 members; $9/mo entry (2 accounts) for roles and the Kanban board |
| 9 | Metricool | Publishing plus analytics when reporting drives the downsize | Free (1 brand); $25/mo for 5 brands |

Why Customers Leave Meltwater for a Competitor
Meltwater built an enterprise media-intelligence suite, and the departures cluster around the contract rather than the technology.
Meltwater prices every deal by quote, and renewal quotes move. A budget owner cannot forecast next year’s cost from this year’s invoice, and third-party procurement data shows wide spreads between similar buyers on similar configurations.
Meltwater’s own pricing page states that most agreements run annual terms with a 12-month minimum. Buyers also report auto-renewal clauses with notice windows. A team that misses its notice window carries the suite for another year, so check the agreement’s exact notice terms before planning any switch.
Meltwater sells a bundle, and usage rarely matches it. A four-person social team inside a communications department bought the suite for listening. That team left the Media Relations database and the consumer-intelligence dashboards untouched for three quarters while the whole bundle kept billing. A module-level usage audit is the instrument that surfaces this, and it costs nothing but an afternoon.
Meltwater monitors over 270,000 global news sources plus blogs, forums, broadcast, and social. That breadth cuts both ways. Long-running user complaints cite irrelevant mentions that need manual filtering before any report goes out, along with outdated journalist-database entries and weak TikTok coverage.
Meltwater’s social-media-management module is a side module, not the product’s center of gravity. An agency running client approvals, bulk scheduling, and per-client onboarding outgrows that module and pays enterprise money for a mid-market publishing workflow.
A communications team that genuinely uses the news, print, and broadcast coverage has a different answer. Nothing in the mid-market replaces that coverage, and the staying-on-Meltwater section below treats that case seriously.
What a Meltwater Replacement Has to Cover
Meltwater sells one annual agreement covering up to five product areas: media monitoring, social listening, PR outreach with a journalist database, influencer marketing, and a social publishing module. No tool on this page sells that same bundle. Brandwatch and CisionOne rebundle the enterprise pieces under their own quote-only contracts. Everything mid-market unbundles instead: listening becomes an add-on, publishing becomes the base product, and the journalist database disappears. Convert your Meltwater agreement into a module inventory before comparing anything.
Then run six checks against that inventory:
- Pull last quarter’s actual usage by module before requesting any quote. Teams routinely discover they used one module of five.
- Separate news, print, and broadcast monitoring from social listening. Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and Agorapulse listen to social platforms and the open web, not print or broadcast.
- Decide whether journalist outreach is contracted work. Only a CisionOne-class suite replaces Meltwater’s Media Relations database.
- Price the loaded monthly cost: seats multiplied by the per-seat rate, plus every add-on your workload forces. Vista Social’s $79 plan becomes $154 once listening joins.
- Check the contract model. Meltwater’s 12-month minimum contrasts with monthly billing at Vista Social, Metricool, and RecurPost, and with annual upfront payment at Sprout Social.
- Map your publishing governance: who drafts, who reviews internally, who signs off for the client, and what happens when a reviewer goes quiet. This sixth check decides only for teams whose social publishing has more than one approver. A single-approver team can skip it.
The coverage table below settles the second, third, and sixth checks for the tools this page names most often. The priced rows were verified against vendor pricing pages on July 16, 2026, and the Meltwater row comes from meltwater.com’s pricing page plus third-party contract benchmarks.
| Tool | News and broadcast monitoring | Social listening | Publishing approvals start at | Pricing model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meltwater | Yes, 270,000+ sources | Yes | Yes, side module | Quote-only, 12-month minimum |
| Brandwatch | Online news within listening | Yes, enterprise depth | Yes, social suite | Quote-only, annual |
| Sprout Social | No | Sales-quoted add-on from Standard | Multi-step, multi-role workflows | $199/seat/mo annual |
| Hootsuite | No | Higher tiers (Talkwalker) | Advanced, $399 | Per user, annual |
| Agorapulse | No | Demo-priced add-on | Professional, $149 | $99/user monthly ($79 annual) |
| Vista Social | News websites within $75 listening add-on | Yes, add-on | Included, routed in a set order | $79/mo, monthly billing |

RecurPost’s directory of social media scheduling alternatives runs the same checks across the whole category. The six groups below run them for the Meltwater case only.
Meltwater Alternatives by Switching Trigger
You Still Need Media Monitoring and PR Outreach
| Closest fit | Brandwatch or CisionOne, or stay on Meltwater |
| Brandwatch fits when | Consumer intelligence and enterprise listening lead the requirement |
| CisionOne fits when | Earned media and journalist outreach are the core deliverable |
| RecurPost does not fit | RecurPost has no media monitoring, no PR outreach, and no journalist database |
Brandwatch covers enterprise listening and consumer intelligence with online news inside its coverage, sold quote-only on annual contracts like Meltwater itself. CisionOne carries the largest journalist database of the tools on this page, with over 1.4 million outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers by its own count. CisionOne suits the team whose core deliverable is earned media and press outreach. Both tools replace Meltwater’s center, and neither publishes a price.
A quote-to-quote switch rarely saves money by itself. Moving between enterprise suites trades one negotiation for another. The savings come from trimming unused modules, not from changing logos.
A communications team whose quarterly deliverable is an earned-media report belongs in this group. No scheduler on this page fits here, RecurPost included. Shortlist Brandwatch for consumer intelligence and CisionOne for PR outreach, then bring both quotes to the Meltwater renewal call.
You Need Social Listening, Not a Clipping Service
| Closest fit | Sprout Social or Hootsuite |
| Sprout Social fits when | A four-seat team lives in one inbox and accepts per-seat math |
| Hootsuite fits when | Account count per user matters more than inbox depth |
| Neither restores | News, print, or broadcast coverage, and both hide the listening price behind sales |
| RecurPost does not fit | RecurPost has no social listening at any price, so RecurPost does not enter this group |
Sprout Social pairs a deep mid-market inbox with AI-powered listening across Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, Tumblr, Bluesky, and the web. Sprout Social’s Standard plan runs $199 per seat per month on annual billing ($249 monthly). Sprout Social sells listening as a sales-quoted add-on from Standard upward, so the real number still needs a call. Sprout Social also runs multi-step, multi-role approval workflows, which matters to a comms team that keeps its sign-off chain after the switch.
Hootsuite runs Talkwalker-powered listening in its higher tiers, with brand, topic, and person tracking plus sentiment, demographics, and visual insights. Hootsuite Standard costs $99 per user per month on annual billing with 10 accounts. Hootsuite Professional costs $199 with unlimited accounts, and Hootsuite puts approval workflows at Advanced, $399.
Agorapulse leans into conversation monitoring and sentiment at a lower entry point. Agorapulse Standard costs $99 per user monthly ($79 annual), Agorapulse starts approvals at Professional, $149, and Agorapulse prices listening through a demo.
Sprout Social is the closest fit for the team that lives in one inbox and accepts per-seat math. Hootsuite fits instead when account count per user matters more than inbox depth. Neither tool restores news, print, or broadcast coverage, and both still hide their listening price behind sales. RecurPost has no social listening at any price, so RecurPost does not enter this group.

You Want Listening Plus Publishing on One Mid-Market Bill
| Closest fit | Vista Social |
| Vista Social fits when | Transparent pricing at $154 to $183 per month loaded beats a Sprout Social or Hootsuite quote |
| Vista Social does not fit when | Print, broadcast, or journalist outreach sits in the deliverable list |
| RecurPost does not fit | RecurPost has no social listening at any price |
Vista Social gets closer to a small Meltwater than anything else at its price. Vista Social Professional covers 15 profiles and 2 users for $79 per month. Vista Social’s $75 Listening add-on tracks conversations across social platforms, news websites, and review sites, with competitor tracking and alerts. Vista Social charges a further $29 per month for X publishing. The loaded bill lands at $154 without X, or $183 with it, on monthly billing with no annual lock-in.
Vista Social’s listening reads online sources only. Print and broadcast stay out of reach, Vista Social puts sentiment analysis at the Enterprise tier, and a PR team gets no journalist database at any price.
Vista Social also holds its own on client governance. Vista Social routes multi-step approvals in a set order, always requires approval on a contributor’s posts, and lets team members and clients approve without logging in. Vista Social offers a Kanban Board view alongside List and Calendar inside Vista Work projects. Vista Social’s SLA reminders and escalation come through the third-party ApproveThis integration rather than natively.
A mid-market brand that still owes one share-of-voice report per quarter is the fit here. Vista Social is the closest fit at $154 per month loaded, and Vista Social is the only pick in this comparison whose listening add-on reaches news websites, per the coverage table above. Step up to the Sprout Social group when inbox depth matters more than the bill.

Your Enterprise Team Pays Per Seat and Hates It
| Closest fit | Emplifi |
| Emplifi fits when | Roughly 8 seats or more, where unlimited seating beats every per-seat rival |
| Emplifi does not fit when | Under 8 seats, where Sprout Social’s per-seat total stays lower |
| RecurPost does not fit | RecurPost includes 3 team members on Agency and charges $20 per month for each extra member |
Emplifi sells enterprise social marketing with unlimited seats and unlimited owned profiles. Emplifi Social Marketing Essential costs $1,249 per month, Emplifi Advanced costs $2,499 and adds multi-stage approvals, and Emplifi sells listening in quote-only tiers on top. A 12-person team pays Emplifi the same as a 3-person team, which flips the math that makes Sprout Social expensive.
Emplifi covers Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Threads. Emplifi publishes to no Google Business Profile and no Bluesky, and Emplifi offers no self-serve trial.
Emplifi is the closest fit from roughly eight seats upward, where unlimited seating beats every per-seat rival. Below eight seats, Sprout Social’s per-seat total stays lower and the previous group applies. RecurPost does not enter this group, because an unlimited-seat procurement requirement is a straight non-fit against RecurPost’s $20 per member pricing.
You Are Downsizing to Social Publishing Operations
| Closest fit | RecurPost, or Metricool for analytics-led downsizes |
| RecurPost fits when | Client workflows have to survive the downsize: staged approvals with acting timeouts, per-workspace roles, and password-free onboarding |
| Metricool fits when | Analytics and ads reporting lead the requirement |
| Stay in the Vista Social group when | Anyone still expects coverage or share-of-voice reports |
Some teams audit their Meltwater usage and find only the social module doing daily work. That team needs a scheduler, not a smaller intelligence suite, and the price drops by two orders of magnitude.
RecurPost covers the publishing side of that downsize at agency depth. RecurPost’s Agency plan runs 20 social accounts for $79 per month flat with 3 team members included and a separate workspace per client. RecurPost onboards each client through a password-free email or link invite, so the client connects their own accounts and never shares credentials. RecurPost surfaces failed posts against 850+ documented platform error types, so a rejected post shows a reason instead of vanishing from the queue. RecurPost takes bulk CSV uploads of hundreds of posts, imports from RSS feeds and Google Alerts, and imports past posts straight from each connected account.
RecurPost publishes to X on every paid plan. RecurPost’s X Wallet, funded by the account from $10.80, pays X’s $0.20 per-link posting fee, and X posts over 280 characters need the client’s own X Premium subscription.
Metricool leads when reporting drives the downsize. Metricool’s free tier covers 1 brand, Metricool Starter covers 5 brands at $25 per month or 10 at $45, Metricool puts ads management in the same dashboard, Metricool charges extra for X, and Metricool starts approvals at Advanced, $67. Buffer serves the smallest version of this move at $6 per channel with a free 3-channel tier, though Buffer surfaces no error when a post fails.
RecurPost is the closest fit for publishing operations with client workflows, at $79 per month for 20 accounts on Agency. Metricool fits instead when analytics and ads reporting lead the requirement. Any team still selling coverage or share-of-voice reports should stop at the Vista Social group above.
Your Client Review Chain Has to Survive the Downsize
| Closest fit | RecurPost for stage deadlines that act, Vista Social when listening matters too |
| RecurPost fits when | The review chain has named stages, each person needs different access per client, and a stalled reviewer must not hold the calendar silently |
| RecurPost does not fit when | IT requires SSO, the workflow must differ per client, or unlimited seats are a procurement condition |
| Vista Social fits when | Approvals routed in a set order plus listening justify $154 per month loaded |
Dropping an enterprise suite does not have to drop the review chain with it. A team leaving Meltwater often assumes staged review only comes bundled with a six-figure contract, and RecurPost runs that chain at $79 per month on the Agency plan.
RecurPost runs approvals as a staged workflow on a Kanban board. The account owner configures the stages once for the whole account, because an agency does not change how it works from one client to the next. RecurPost offers three stage types: work, internal review, and client review. RecurPost lets the owner rename, add, and remove stages. RecurPost’s default workflow chains four steps:
- A writer drafts the post in the Writing stage.
- A manager reviews the post in the Manager Review stage within 48 hours, or RecurPost escalates it.
- The client approves the post in the Client Review stage within 72 hours, or RecurPost reschedules the post by one day.
- A client who requests changes sends the post back to Writing with their comments.
RecurPost sets each stage’s timeout at 4, 8, 24, 48, or 72 hours, or at 7 days. RecurPost warns the assigned role at 50 percent and 80 percent of that timeout and again when the stage runs overdue. The owner also picks what RecurPost does once the clock runs out:
- RecurPost holds the post in its stage until someone acts.
- RecurPost approves the post automatically and moves it on.
- RecurPost escalates the post to the next approver.
- RecurPost reschedules the post so a late client review never publishes on the wrong day.
RecurPost’s acting deadline is the operational difference from a reminder. RecurPost’s reschedule rule matters most at client review. A client who goes quiet on a Friday launch post triggers the reschedule rule, and RecurPost moves the post to the next day instead of publishing it unapproved.
RecurPost controls who acts at each stage through roles. RecurPost starts every account with role templates:
| RecurPost role | What the role can do |
|---|---|
| Contributor | Write their own drafts and send them for review, with no access to other people’s posts or approvals |
| Writer | Write and edit posts, manage the content library, and reply in the inbox |
| Editor | Approve posts at internal review stages, edit anyone’s work, and manage the inbox |
| Publisher | Publish and schedule, handle client approvals, export reports, and manage the team |
RecurPost also lets the owner build a custom role by ticking individual permissions. RecurPost’s permissions cover posts, approvals and publishing, social profiles, the content library, the inbox, reports, DM automations, paid ads, client review, and workspace and team settings. RecurPost’s paid ads permission covers boosting published Facebook and Instagram posts into ads, with budget, audience, and duration set inside RecurPost and billing through the client’s connected Meta ad account, and RecurPost runs no Google, LinkedIn, or TikTok ads. Turning a section off hides that page from the member’s sidebar. A member who tries a blocked action sees the exact permission to request from the workspace owner.
RecurPost assigns roles per workspace, so one person holds different roles for different clients. RecurPost also names an Account Manager for each workspace. RecurPost’s Account Manager is a guaranteed second approver and can approve on the client’s behalf, and RecurPost logs every approve-on-behalf. That log is the audit line a downsizing communications team gets asked for at the first client review.
RecurPost sends each role only the alerts for the stages that role works in, by email and in the mobile app:
- RecurPost alerts a member when a post is assigned to them.
- RecurPost alerts approvers when posts wait for their review.
- RecurPost alerts the writer when a post is approved or sent back with changes.
- RecurPost alerts the assigned role as a stage nears or misses its timeout.
- RecurPost alerts the team when a client approves, rejects, or sends an urgent approval request.
A five-client roster shows the whole chain. A freelance writer holds the Writer role in two workspaces and no access in the third. The account manager clears Manager Review inside 48 hours from the board, or RecurPost escalates the post. Each client opens RecurPost’s shareable calendar without logging in and approves the post or requests changes with one button, and RecurPost reschedules the post by a day when 72 hours pass with no answer.
RecurPost includes team roles, custom permissions, and the Kanban board on every plan, starting with Starter at $9 per month. RecurPost includes client workspaces and the internal and external approval workflow on the Agency plan at $79 per month. Compare that placement against the rest of the plan structure on RecurPost pricing.
RecurPost holds no monopoly on any of this, and three rivals cover roles and approvals at close range. Vista Social routes multi-step approvals in a set order, always requires approval on a contributor’s posts, and lets clients approve without logging in. Vista Social also ships a Kanban Board view inside Vista Work projects, and Vista Social gets SLA reminders and escalation through the third-party ApproveThis integration. Sprout Social runs multi-step, multi-role approval workflows on its per-seat plans. Metricool ships preset roles (Manager, Editor, Content Creator, Analyst, Client) plus custom roles, and Metricool’s Client role approves or rejects posts, with approvals on Advanced at $67.

Where RecurPost Fits a Meltwater Team, and Where It Does Not
RecurPost fits the team whose Meltwater audit showed one working module: publishing. A five-client agency with 20 social accounts shows the fit. RecurPost covers all 20 accounts for $79 flat with a separate workspace per client. RecurPost moves each post from writer to account manager to client through configured stages, and a client who misses the 72-hour window gets the post rescheduled rather than published unapproved. RecurPost surfaces failed posts against 850+ documented error types instead of dropping them silently. RecurPost also carries recurring content libraries for teams that reuse evergreen posts.
RecurPost publishes to these platforms:
- Facebook Pages, Facebook Groups, and Facebook personal profiles
- Instagram, including Feed, Story, and Reels
- X, with the account-funded X Wallet paying the $0.20 per-link fee
- LinkedIn, including PDF documents and carousels
- Pinterest, Google Business Profile with CTA buttons and rejection monitoring, and YouTube
- TikTok, Threads, and Bluesky
RecurPost bills per social account rather than per user seat, so 20 accounts cost $79 flat with no per-user charge. Sendible’s Client Connect matches the password-free onboarding from its $99 Plus plan, so RecurPost holds no monopoly on that workflow, only the lower price for it.
RecurPost does not fit a team leaving Meltwater that depends on any of these:
- RecurPost has no media monitoring, no PR outreach, no journalist database, no social listening, no sentiment analysis, and no consumer intelligence. Meltwater’s entire core has no RecurPost equivalent.
- RecurPost has no SSO, which is still the blocker in most enterprise IT reviews.
- RecurPost keeps workflow stages account-wide, so one client cannot run a different stage sequence from another.
- RecurPost sends no automatic client reminder emails, and RecurPost’s clients review on a shareable calendar rather than a branded portal on the agency’s own domain.
- RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking, so a team that sells share-of-voice work needs Brandwatch or Vista Social’s listening add-on.
- RecurPost charges $20 per month for each team member past the 3 included on Agency, against Emplifi’s unlimited seats.
- RecurPost does not publish to Snapchat and has no link-in-bio product.
- RecurPost publishes X posts over 280 characters only when the client holds their own X Premium subscription.
- RecurPost’s interface is utilitarian. It manages large client rosters fine and wins no design awards doing it.
RecurPost does not fit monitoring-driven teams, PR teams, listening-led agencies, or enterprises that require SSO. Those buyers have better answers in the groups above. The RecurPost case studies show which rosters made the publishing-only trade and why.
The Pricing Math, Both Ways
Want the numbers for your own roster? The social media tool pricing calculator prices 36 schedulers, RecurPost among them, for your profiles, seats, clients and must-have features, with the arithmetic shown.
Meltwater alternatives spread wider on price than any other group in social software, from free tiers to six-figure contracts. Anchor on the module inventory, then read the table.
| Tool | Entry price | What the entry price covers | What changes the real cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meltwater | Quote-only; third-party median near $25,000/yr (about $2,080/mo) | Tailored module bundle, 12-month minimum | Modules, seats, source scope, renewal quotes |
| Brandwatch | Quote-only | Enterprise listening and consumer intelligence | Annual contract, module scope |
| CisionOne | Quote-only | Media monitoring plus journalist database | Annual contract, database and outreach scope |
| Emplifi | $1,249/mo (Essential) | Unlimited seats and owned profiles | Advanced $2,499 for multi-stage approvals; listening quote-only |
| Sprout Social | $199/seat/mo annual ($249 monthly) | Standard plan, 5 profiles per seat | Listening is a sales-quoted add-on; annual paid upfront |
| Hootsuite | $99/user/mo annual (Standard, 10 accounts) | Publishing and inbox | Approvals at Advanced $399; listening in higher tiers |
| Agorapulse | $99/user monthly ($79 annual) | Standard plan | Approvals from Professional $149; listening demo-priced |
| Vista Social | $79/mo (15 profiles, 2 users) | Publishing, inbox, approvals | Listening plus $75/mo; X publishing plus $29/mo |
| RecurPost | $79/mo (Agency, 20 accounts, 3 members) | Publishing operations with staged approvals, per-workspace roles, client workspaces, and white-label reports | Extra account $4/mo, extra member $20/mo; no listening at any price |
| Metricool | Free (1 brand); $25/mo for 5 brands | Publishing and analytics | X add-on extra; approvals at Advanced $67 |

Run the math in both directions.
A communications team that keeps monitoring saves little by switching suites. Brandwatch and CisionOne quote annually just as Meltwater does, so the savings come from trimming unused modules during negotiation. A Meltwater renewal call with two rival quotes and a usage audit on the table is often the cheapest outcome in this group.
A four-person social team that only needs listening cuts the bill roughly in half, with an asterisk. Sprout Social Standard costs $796 per month for four seats on annual billing before the sales-quoted listening add-on, against a median Meltwater contract near $2,080 per month. Hootsuite Professional lands at the same $796 for four users with unlimited accounts. The asterisk: the moment anyone asks for a press-coverage report, that saving funds a separate monitoring subscription and the gap closes.
A mid-market brand that wants listening and publishing together pays Vista Social $183 per month loaded (Professional $79, Listening $75, X $29) on monthly billing. That total is under a tenth of the median Meltwater contract, and the trade is explicit: online-only listening, no print, no broadcast, no journalist database.
A team downsizing to publishing operations pays RecurPost $948 per year for the Agency plan, roughly four percent of a median Meltwater contract. The same roster on Sprout Social Standard with three seats costs $597 per month, which is why per-seat suites make no sense for publishing-only work. The reverse math holds too: RecurPost’s $948 buys zero monitoring, so a single contracted share-of-voice deliverable forces either Vista Social’s add-on or a kept monitoring line item.
When Staying on Meltwater Is the Right Call
Meltwater keeps several things nobody in the mid-market replaces. Meltwater monitors over 270,000 news sources plus print and broadcast, which no scheduler and no mid-market listening add-on approaches. Meltwater’s Media Relations module pairs a journalist database with outreach in the same platform that measures the resulting coverage. Meltwater bundles consumer intelligence and influencer marketing under one vendor, one login, and one invoice, which procurement teams sometimes value more than the modules themselves.
A PR or communications team whose deliverables include earned-media reporting, broadcast clips, or journalist outreach should stay on Meltwater or move sideways to CisionOne. That team should treat this page’s mid-market picks as complements at most. The stronger play is renegotiation: arrive at renewal with a module-level usage audit and rival quotes, then cut the unused modules instead of the platform.
Moving Off Meltwater
Meltwater stops platform access at expiry, and Meltwater’s monitoring history transfers nowhere. A move from Meltwater to RecurPost takes five steps:
- Export every Meltwater dashboard, coverage report, and media list before the term ends.
- Check the Meltwater renewal notice window early, because annual agreements renew unless notice lands in time.
- Configure RecurPost’s workflow stages and assign a role per workspace before inviting the team, so the first post enters a chain that already exists.
- Send password-free RecurPost invites to each client, then import past posts straight from each connected social account. That import rebuilds a working content library without CSV formatting.
- Budget separate time for any listening queries and alerts you plan to recreate elsewhere, because no vendor imports those.
RecurPost’s Kanban board becomes the day-to-day view of those stages once setup ends. Each post sits on the board as a card with an assignee, labels, and a media preview, and Ideas and Scheduled columns bookend the board.
Meltwater Alternatives FAQs
Which Meltwater alternative fits which team?
Each Meltwater alternative fits a different team, because no tool on this page sells Meltwater’s full bundle, so the fit follows the module your team used. Brandwatch fits consumer intelligence and enterprise listening, and CisionOne fits journalist outreach. Sprout Social and Hootsuite fit teams that need social listening with inbox depth, and Vista Social fits listening plus publishing on one mid-market bill. RecurPost fits publishing operations at $79 per month for 20 social accounts, and Metricool fits analytics-led downsizes. Two cases sit outside that logic: a team that still reports on print or broadcast coverage should stay on Meltwater or move to CisionOne, and a team whose procurement requires unlimited seats belongs on Emplifi. The tables above carry each starting price.
How much does Meltwater cost?
Meltwater publishes no prices and quotes every contract individually across four tiers (Starter, Pro, Enterprise, Agency) with a 12-month minimum term. Third-party procurement benchmarks put the median contract near $25,000 per year, common quotes between $15,000 and $60,000, and enterprise deployments well above $100,000. Your Meltwater quote depends on modules, seats, and source scope.
Is RecurPost a replacement for Meltwater?
No, not for Meltwater’s core. RecurPost has no media monitoring, no PR tools, no listening, and no consumer intelligence. RecurPost replaces the social publishing workload, with plans from $9 per month and the client-workspace and approval-workflow tier at $79 per month on Agency. RecurPost suits teams whose usage audit shows publishing as the only module still in daily use.
Which Meltwater alternatives cover news and broadcast monitoring?
Brandwatch and CisionOne cover news monitoring at enterprise depth, both quote-only. Vista Social’s $75 listening add-on reaches news websites and review sites but not print or broadcast. Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Agorapulse, RecurPost, and Metricool cover no news or broadcast media at all.
What is the cheapest way to keep social listening after Meltwater?
Vista Social prices listening transparently: $75 per month on top of the $79 Professional plan, for $154 total on monthly billing. Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and Agorapulse all sell listening through sales conversations on top of per-seat plans, so their loaded totals start higher and need a quote.
Do any Meltwater alternatives include a journalist database?
CisionOne carries the largest one, with over 1.4 million outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers by its own count. No social media tool on this page offers a journalist database or PR outreach feature, and that list includes Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Vista Social, RecurPost, and Metricool.
What does a downsized stack cost after Meltwater, and is there a free alternative?
A publishing-only stack runs $25 to $183 per month against a median Meltwater contract near $2,080 per month. RecurPost Agency covers 20 social accounts at $79. Metricool Starter covers 5 brands at $25. Vista Social loaded with listening and X reaches $183. Buffer starts free for 3 channels. The downsize only works if nobody still expects coverage reports.
Which tools like Meltwater fit an agency managing multiple client accounts?
Meltwater sells one quoted annual agreement, and its social publishing module sits beside the intelligence modules rather than at the center. RecurPost gives each client a separate workspace on the Agency plan at $79 per month for 20 social accounts, and RecurPost assigns each member a role per workspace. RecurPost’s Agency plan includes 5 shareable client calendars, and further calendars cost $10 per month for each block of 10. RecurPost onboards each client through a password-free email or link invite. RecurPost’s clients then approve posts or request changes from the shareable calendar without logging in. Vista Social covers 15 profiles and 2 users at $79 per month, routes multi-step approvals in a set order, and also lets clients approve without logging in. Metricool covers 5 brands at $25 per month when reporting leads the roster.
Can a team keep a staged approval chain after leaving Meltwater?
Yes. RecurPost’s Agency plan at $79 per month runs work, internal review, and client review stages with timeouts from 4 hours to 7 days. Each RecurPost stage rule holds, approves, escalates, or reschedules the post when the clock runs out. Vista Social routes multi-step approvals in a set order on its $79 plan, and Sprout Social runs multi-step, multi-role approvals on per-seat plans.
Does RecurPost have team roles and permissions?
Yes, on every plan from Starter at $9 per month. RecurPost assigns Contributor, Writer, Editor, and Publisher templates or a custom role, per workspace. RecurPost’s permissions cover posts, approvals, social profiles, the content library, the inbox, reports, DM automations, paid ads, and client review, and a switched-off section disappears from that member’s sidebar. RecurPost has no SSO.
Do clients need an account to approve posts in RecurPost?
No. Your client opens RecurPost’s shareable calendar without logging in and approves each post or requests changes with one button. A change request returns the post to the Writing stage with the client’s comments. RecurPost also lets each workspace name an Account Manager as a guaranteed second approver who can approve on the client’s behalf, and RecurPost logs every one of those approvals.
