Hootsuite alternatives are social media management platforms that replace some combination of Hootsuite’s publishing, scheduling, approval, engagement, analytics, and social listening workflows. No single replacement matches every Hootsuite capability, so the tool that fits depends on the gap that started the search.
Hootsuite sells every plan per user seat and holds approval workflows and message auto-routing until Advanced at $399 per user per month. Those two facts start most Hootsuite searches, and each one points to a different replacement.
RecurPost fits teams that want flat per-account pricing, staged approvals with team roles, or a white-label client report built where the posts are scheduled. Buffer fits a solo scheduler, Metricool fits a reporting and ads budget, and Agorapulse and Vista Social fit teams that still need listening. See the Hootsuite alternatives at a glance table, then read the group that matches your trigger.
The short version, before the evidence:
| The gap that is moving you | Closest fit | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Per-user seat pricing is inflating the bill | RecurPost | $9/mo |
| You only ever used the scheduler | Buffer | Free (3 channels) |
| Approvals sit behind a $399 seat | RecurPost or HeyOrca | $79/mo (RecurPost Agency) or $50 per workspace/mo (HeyOrca paid workspaces, annual) |
| Every reviewer needs a paid seat | RecurPost | $9/mo (roles and permissions on every plan) |
| Reporting and ads without enterprise pricing | Metricool | Free (1 brand) |
| Social listening at a lower price | Agorapulse or Vista Social | $79/user/mo (annual) |
Every option in that table loses somewhere. The sections below show where.
Hootsuite Alternatives and Competitors at a Glance
Nine platforms like Hootsuite close at least one of the five triggers on this page. The table names the kind of team each one fits.
| # | Tool | Fits teams that | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | RecurPost | Leave per-user seat pricing and want staged approvals with per-client team roles | $9/mo (2 profiles); Agency $79/mo for 20 profiles and 3 users |
| 2 | Planable | Need client sign-off enforced and still publish to X | $33/workspace/mo annual (4 channels, 60 posts/mo); Pro $49 for 10 channels |
| 3 | Buffer | Only need the scheduler | Free for 3 channels; $6/channel/mo after |
| 4 | Metricool | Want reporting and ads management on a budget | Free for 1 brand; $25/mo for 5 brands |
| 5 | Vista Social | Want a full agency stack with a listening add-on | $79/mo for 15 profiles and 2 users; X +$29/mo, listening +$75/mo |
| 6 | Agorapulse | Run an inbox-heavy workflow and need listening | $99/user/mo ($79 on annual billing) |
| 7 | HeyOrca | Run approval rounds and have no X clients | Free tier; $50 to $126 per workspace/mo on annual billing |
| 8 | Sendible | Work in-house and want unlimited users | $29/mo (6 profiles); approvals and Client Connect from $99/mo |
| 9 | SocialBee | Want category-based content recycling | $29/mo (5 profiles) |

Sprout Social also replaces Hootsuite, but as a lateral move into another per-seat enterprise suite rather than a way out of one, so Sprout Social appears in the listening group below without a numbered spot.
Why Teams Leave Hootsuite
Hootsuite built the original social media management dashboard and then repriced it for enterprises. Five gaps drive most departures.
Hootsuite prices every plan per user. The Standard plan costs $99 per user per month on annual billing, so a second seat doubles the bill and a third seat triples it. Three people sharing one Standard account roster pay $297 per month before any upgrade.
Hootsuite sells access by the seat. Hootsuite’s plans page states that plans are sold per user, and that an organization buys an additional seat for each team member who needs access. A reviewer who only reads and approves therefore costs the same as the person publishing all day.
Hootsuite caps the Standard plan at 10 social accounts. An agency with an eleventh client profile must move every seat to Professional at $199 per user per month to get unlimited accounts.
Hootsuite holds approval workflows and message auto-routing until the Advanced plan at $399 per user per month. Hootsuite’s plans page puts “Review and approve content with your team” and “Assign and auto-route messages to the right team members” on that Advanced tier. Teams on Standard and Professional review client posts over email and screenshots, exactly the workflow a scheduler exists to replace.
Hootsuite does manage permissions below Advanced, so the trigger here is the price of the approval and routing layer rather than an absence of permission controls.
Hootsuite displays annual-billing prices on its plans page and charges a higher rate on month-to-month billing without publishing that rate. Buyers discover the real monthly figure at checkout.
Hootsuite ships its deepest features at the top of the ladder. Advanced analytics, AI-powered listening, single sign-on and compliance tooling sit in the custom-priced Enterprise tier, so a small team pays enterprise-shaped prices for a product mostly built for someone else. Our last product audit also found RSS import sold separately through the paid Syndicator add-on rather than included in any plan.
A three-person agency running 14 client accounts sits in the worst spot. Standard’s 10-account cap forces Professional, so the roster costs $597 per month at three seats, and nobody on the team has an approval queue at that price.
A large brand using Talkwalker-powered listening, industry benchmarking and compliance controls has not outgrown Hootsuite at all. Those buyers are Hootsuite’s actual target market, and the staying-on-Hootsuite section below covers that case.

What a Hootsuite Replacement Has to Cover
Hootsuite prices per user seat, and that unit hides the real comparison. A Hootsuite bill grows when the team grows, even if the account roster never changes. Most tools similar to Hootsuite price per social account, per channel or per brand instead, so write down two numbers before comparing anything: how many social accounts you manage and how many people touch them.
Then run five checks against those two numbers:
- Price the whole team, not one seat. A tool that costs $79 flat beats a tool that costs $99 per user the moment a second person joins.
- Find the plan tier where approvals unlock, and find where roles and permissions unlock, which is a different tier in most tools. Hootsuite holds approvals until $399 per user, and Buffer gates them behind its Team plan too.
- Confirm the platforms your roster needs. Hootsuite covers X, Google Business Profile is absent from its network list, and some alternatives (HeyOrca among them) publish no X at all.
- Separate scheduling needs from listening needs. Listening is the single feature that keeps most large accounts on Hootsuite, and most cheap schedulers have none.
- Check your contract date before canceling. Hootsuite’s displayed prices assume annual billing, and an annual commitment renews whether you migrated or not.
The coverage table below settles the first two checks for the tools this page recommends most often. We verified every cell against vendor pricing pages on July 16, 2026.
| Tool | Pricing unit | Accounts on entry plan | Approvals unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite | Per user seat | 10 (Standard, $99/user/mo annual) | Advanced, $399/user/mo |
| RecurPost | Per social profile | 2 (Starter, $9/mo) | Agency, $79/mo (roles and permissions on every plan from $9) |
| Planable | Per workspace, unlimited users | 4 channels (Basic, $33/mo annual, 60 posts/mo) | Optional on Basic; Required from Pro ($49); multi-level on Enterprise |
| Buffer | Per channel | 3 free; $6/channel after | Team plan, $12/channel/mo |
| Metricool | Per brand | 1 brand free; 5 brands at $25/mo | Advanced, $67/mo |
| Vista Social | Profile bundle | 15 profiles, 2 users (Professional, $79/mo) | Included in plans |

RecurPost’s directory of social media scheduler alternatives runs these same checks across 43 tools. The five groups below run them for the Hootsuite case only.
Hootsuite Alternatives by Switching Trigger
Per-User Seat Pricing Outgrew Your Team
| Closest fit | RecurPost, or Vista Social when listening is on the list |
| RecurPost fits when | A fixed account roster and a growing team make per-seat billing the main cost |
| Vista Social fits when | Listening or review management belongs on the requirements list |
| Neither fits when | SSO, compliance archiving, or Talkwalker-depth listening is required |
| Price scenario | 3 users, 14 accounts: Hootsuite Professional $597/mo, RecurPost Agency $79/mo, Vista Social $108/mo with X |
RecurPost prices per social profile and never per seat. The Agency plan covers 20 social accounts for $79 per month flat with 3 team members included, an extra account costs $4 per month and an extra team member costs $20 per month. Yearly billing on RecurPost gives two months free. The three-seat Hootsuite Professional roster from above drops from $597 to $79 on the same billing month, and adding a fourth person costs $20 instead of $199.
RecurPost also hands that fourth person a role on arrival. A reviewer who should only approve gets RecurPost’s Editor template rather than a full publishing seat. Hootsuite prices the same reviewer as another purchased seat at the plan’s per-user rate.
Vista Social bundles seats a different way. The Professional plan covers 15 profiles and 2 users for $79 per month, with X publishing sold as a $29 per month add-on. Vista Social carries review management and a listening add-on that RecurPost does not offer, which matters in the last group below.
Sendible starts at $29 per month and stays cheaper than Hootsuite at small rosters, though Sendible’s plan value thins out toward 20 or more accounts.
RecurPost fits a growing team on a fixed account roster, because a RecurPost bill tracks accounts rather than headcount. RecurPost does not fit a team that needs listening or review management, and Vista Social covers that pair at $108 per month with the $29 X add-on inside the price.
RecurPost’s plan page lists every account and member add-on with its unit price. Compare plan costs against your current Hootsuite invoice before reading further.
You Only Ever Used the Scheduler
| Closest fit | Buffer |
| Buffer fits when | One or two people queue posts on fewer than roughly 10 channels |
| SocialBee fits when | Category-based content recycling matters more than raw price |
| Avoid this group when | You need approvals, client onboarding, or failed-post alerts |
| Price scenario | Solo user, 3 accounts: Buffer Free $0, RecurPost Starter $9/mo plus one $4 add-on profile |
Buffer fits the Hootsuite user who opened the dashboard once a day to queue posts and ignored everything else. Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Buffer Essentials costs $6 per channel per month on monthly billing ($5 annual) with unlimited scheduling, and Buffer publishes to X, Google Business Profile, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. Nothing on this page is simpler to run.
Buffer’s hard edges show up at team scale. Buffer requires account credentials at connection, surfaced no failed-post error notice in our 2026 hands-on audit, and holds approvals until the Team plan at $12 per channel per month. A 15-channel roster with approvals costs $180 per month on Buffer, which erases the savings that made Buffer attractive. RecurPost notifies the user when a post fails and names the platform error behind it.
SocialBee starts at $29 per month and suits the buyer who used Hootsuite’s content library heavily, since SocialBee builds its whole product around category-based content queues. RecurPost keeps recurring content libraries as a feature rather than the center of the product.
Buffer fits solo operators and two-person teams under roughly 10 channels. Buffer does not fit a team that needs a review step, client onboarding, or a failed-post alert, and the per-channel math turns against Buffer once approvals join the list.
Approval Workflows and Message Routing Sit Behind a $399 Seat
| Closest fit | RecurPost, HeyOrca, or Planable, depending on how the review chain works |
| RecurPost fits when | The review chain has named stages, each person needs different access, review deadlines get missed, and the roster includes X or Google Business Profile |
| HeyOrca fits when | Approval rounds matter more than network coverage |
| Planable fits when | Sign-off must be enforced, not optional, and the roster includes X |
| Sendible fits when | Password-free client connection is the only feature that matters |
| Avoid this group when | SSO, compliance archiving, or enterprise listening is required |
| Price scenario | 3 users, 14 accounts with approvals: Hootsuite Advanced $1,197/mo, RecurPost Agency $79/mo |
Approvals move the most Hootsuite teams, and roles are the part buyers check second. Neither capability is rare in this category. Hootsuite manages permissions on every plan it lists, and Metricool, Publer, Planable, Vista Social, HeyOrca and Sprout Social all run roles or approvals of some kind. The differences sit in where each tool prices the review chain, and in what happens when a reviewer goes quiet.
| Tool | Review chain | Board view | When a reviewer goes quiet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite | Review and approve content with your team, plus assign and auto-route messages, on Advanced at $399 per user per month; permission management through departmental organization on Standard, Professional, Advanced and Enterprise | ||
| RecurPost | Account-wide stages of three types: work, internal review and client review | Kanban board on every plan | The owner’s stage rule holds the post, approves it automatically, escalates it, or reschedules it |
| Planable | Kanban approvals tab with multi-level approvals; optional sign-off on Basic, required from Pro | Kanban approvals tab | |
| Vista Social | Multi-step approvals routed in a set order, with approvers able to approve without logging in | Kanban Board view inside Vista Work projects | |
| HeyOrca | Approval stages with several named approvers | Month and day calendar views | Reminders 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days before publish, with no automatic action when overdue |

RecurPost runs approvals as a staged workflow on a Kanban board. The account owner configures those stages once for the whole account, because an agency does not change how it works from one client to the next. RecurPost gives each stage one of three types: work, internal review, or client review. Every RecurPost post then crosses the board as a card with an assignee, labels and a media preview.
RecurPost seeds a new account with a default workflow of four steps:
- A writer drafts the post in the Writing stage.
- A manager clears the post in Manager Review within 48 hours, or RecurPost escalates it.
- The client signs off in Client Review within 72 hours, or RecurPost reschedules the post by one day.
- A client who requests changes sends the post back to Writing with comments.
RecurPost bookends that board with an Ideas column and a Scheduled column. RecurPost lets the owner rename, add and remove stages. RecurPost sets each stage’s timeout at 4, 8, 24, 48 or 72 hours, or at 7 days. RecurPost warns the assigned role at 50 percent and 80 percent of that timeout and again once the stage runs overdue, by email and in the mobile app.
RecurPost applies the rule the owner picked for that stage once the timeout runs out:
- RecurPost holds the post in its stage until someone acts.
- RecurPost approves the post automatically and moves it on.
- RecurPost escalates the post to the next approver.
- RecurPost reschedules the post so a late client review never publishes on the wrong day.
RecurPost controls who acts at each stage through roles, and RecurPost includes roles and permissions on every plan from the $9 Starter plan. RecurPost starts every account with four role templates:
| RecurPost role | What the role can do |
|---|---|
| Contributor | Writes their own drafts and sends them for review, with no access to other people’s posts or approvals |
| Writer | Writes and edits posts, manages the content library, and replies in the inbox |
| Editor | Approves posts at internal review stages, edits anyone’s work, and manages the inbox |
| Publisher | Publishes and schedules, handles client approvals, exports reports, and manages the team |
RecurPost also lets the owner edit a template or build a custom role by ticking individual permissions. RecurPost groups those permissions into ten sections:
- Posts
- Approvals and publishing
- Social profiles
- Content library
- Inbox
- Reports
- DM automations
- Paid ads
- Client review
- Workspace and team settings
Turning off a section hides that page from the member’s sidebar. A member who tries a blocked action sees the exact permission to ask the workspace owner for.
RecurPost assigns roles per workspace, so one person holds different roles for different clients. A freelancer can be a Writer for one client, an Editor for a second, and have no access to a third. RecurPost also names an Account Manager in each workspace. RecurPost’s Account Manager is a guaranteed second approver and can approve on the client’s behalf, and RecurPost logs every approve-on-behalf.
RecurPost’s clients approve without logging in. The client opens the shareable calendar, then approves each post or requests changes with one button. RecurPost onboards those clients without passwords: each client gets an email or link invite and connects their own accounts, so nobody shares credentials.
RecurPost sends each role only the alerts for the stages that role works in, by email and in the mobile app:
- RecurPost alerts a member when a post is assigned to them.
- RecurPost alerts approvers when posts are waiting for review.
- RecurPost alerts the writer when a post is approved or sent back with changes.
- RecurPost alerts the assigned role as a stage nears or misses its timeout.
- RecurPost alerts the team when a client approves, rejects, or sends an urgent approval request.
RecurPost includes client workspaces and the internal and external approval workflow on the Agency plan at $79 per month. RecurPost includes the roles, the custom permissions and the Kanban board on every plan from $9.
The three-person agency on 14 client accounts maps onto that default workflow directly. A freelance writer holds the Writer role only in the workspaces they cover, the account manager clears Manager Review within 48 hours from the board, and a client who misses the 72-hour Client Review window gets the post rescheduled by one day instead of published unapproved. The same headcount with approvals on Hootsuite Advanced costs $1,197 per month.
Sendible matches the onboarding half with Client Connect, which handles password-free client connection the same way, from its $99 Plus plan.
HeyOrca goes furthest on the approval experience itself. HeyOrca prices per client workspace (free tier up to $126 per workspace) and builds each workspace around review rounds. HeyOrca removed direct X publishing in April 2026, so rosters with active X clients need to look elsewhere.
Planable is where those X rosters land if enforced sign-off is the point. Planable prices per workspace with unlimited users, so the approval workflow sitting behind Hootsuite’s $399 per-user Advanced plan costs a fraction of that here. Optional sign-off comes with Basic at about $33 per workspace per month on annual billing. Required sign-off, the kind that actually blocks a post until someone approves it, starts on Pro at about $49. Multi-level sign-off, for when legal and the client both have to approve in sequence, is Enterprise-only and priced on request. Clients and approvers review from a shareable link without creating an account or taking up a seat, so a three-person team reviewing with two client contacts still pays for one workspace, and internal comments stay invisible to clients. Planable publishes to X, Google Business Profile and Threads alongside Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest.
The constraint is volume. Basic meters you at 60 posts per workspace per month across 4 social pages. One brand posting daily to four channels is 120 posts, so the post cap binds long before the channel limit does. Pro lifts it to 150 posts and 10 pages, which is still under daily posting across ten channels. Almost nothing else on this page meters posts at all. Analytics and the social inbox are separate add-ons at $14 and $9 per workspace per month, so a workspace that needs client reporting lands nearer $47 than $33.
An agency whose clients live on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn fits HeyOrca in this group. Planable fits when sign-off has to be enforced rather than optional and the roster includes X, provided the monthly post cap clears. RecurPost fits when the review chain has named stages, the people in it need different access per client, and missed deadlines have to resolve themselves, with Sendible as the middle path when Client Connect is the only feature that matters.
RecurPost replaces the email-and-screenshot review loop with named stages, per-client roles and deadlines that act, on the Agency plan at $79 per month rather than a $399 seat.
You Want Reporting and Ads Without Enterprise Pricing
| Closest fit | Metricool |
| Metricool fits when | Reports and ads management drive the decision |
| RecurPost fits when | The deliverable is a branded client report: 200+ metric custom reports, white-label PDF, no benchmarking |
| Hootsuite still fits when | 20-brand competitive benchmarking depth is the requirement |
| Price scenario | 10 client brands: Metricool Starter $45/mo against one Hootsuite Standard seat at $99/mo |
Metricool carries this group on price. Metricool’s free plan covers 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month (without X or LinkedIn publishing on the free tier). Metricool’s Starter covers 5 brands at $25 per month, or 10 brands at $45, with unlimited publishing, Google Business Profile works on every tier, X costs extra as an add-on, and ads management sits inside the same dashboard. One Metricool brand holds one client’s whole profile set, so 10 brands means 10 clients.
Hootsuite’s own reporting remains genuinely strong, with white-label exports, scheduled reports and competitive benchmarking. Metricool’s argument is price, not depth: the Advanced plan covers 50 brands at $67 per month, less than one Hootsuite Standard seat.
RecurPost competes on the reporting half of this trigger. RecurPost’s Custom Reports builder assembles drag-and-drop reports from 200+ metrics across 10 platforms, with 58 templates and 11 chart types to start from. RecurPost reports carry audience demographics, Meta ads reporting metrics and Google Business reviews. RecurPost delivers each report as a white-label PDF, downloaded or emailed to up to 25 recipients, and its Chat with Reports AI answers questions about the numbers inside. The ads half stays with Metricool, because RecurPost boosts published Facebook and Instagram posts into ads rather than building campaigns from scratch, does not run Google, LinkedIn or TikTok ads, and has no web-analytics tie-in.
Metricool at $25 to $67 per month replaces the ads and benchmarking workload of a Hootsuite seat for most small and mid-size rosters. RecurPost fits the agency whose monthly deliverable is a branded client report across up to 10 client brands, built in the tool that already schedules the posts. A buyer who needs Hootsuite’s 20-brand competitive benchmarking depth should read the staying-on-Hootsuite section instead.
You Still Need Social Listening, Just Not at This Price
| Closest fit | Vista Social or Agorapulse |
| Vista Social fits when | You want a published all-in price: $79 plan plus $75 listening = $154/mo |
| Agorapulse fits when | Inbox tooling leads and you will price the listening add-on on a call |
| Sprout Social fits when | You are moving laterally into another enterprise suite |
| RecurPost does not fit here | No social listening and no sentiment analysis at any price |
Agorapulse anchors this group. The Standard plan costs $99 per user per month on monthly billing ($79 annual) with 10 social profiles per user, strong inbox tooling and listening sold as an add-on priced through a sales call. Vista Social sells its listening add-on at a published $75 per month on top of the $79 Professional plan, which lands a full listening-plus-publishing stack at $154 flat for 2 users. Sprout Social’s Standard plan runs $199 per seat per month with listening as a paid add-on from that tier upward, and Sprout Social also runs multi-step, multi-role approval workflows, so it suits the buyer moving laterally into another enterprise suite rather than downsizing.
RecurPost does not compete in this group. RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis. A team selling listening reports to clients should shortlist Agorapulse, Vista Social or Sprout Social and treat everything else on this page as a scheduler.
Vista Social carries the cheapest published path to listening plus publishing in one bill at $154. Agorapulse fits inbox-heavy teams willing to price the listening add-on on a call. Neither matches the Talkwalker depth a true enterprise account gets from Hootsuite itself.
Where RecurPost Falls Short for a Hootsuite Team
RecurPost’s gaps deserve the same bluntness as Hootsuite’s.
- RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis, the exact features that justify Hootsuite’s top tiers.
- RecurPost has no single sign-on, which regulated buyers get in Hootsuite Enterprise.
- RecurPost boosts published Facebook and Instagram posts into ads and builds no campaigns from scratch, and Hootsuite runs ads across Facebook, LinkedIn and X from its dashboard.
- RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking, which is the reporting depth Hootsuite’s industry benchmarking sells.
- RecurPost includes 3 team members on the Agency plan and charges $20 per month for each extra member, so a large team keeps paying per person past the third.
- RecurPost’s interface is utilitarian. It handles large client rosters fine and wins no design awards doing it.
- RecurPost does not publish to Snapchat and has no link-in-bio product.
- X posts beyond 280 characters require the client’s own X Premium subscription.
Teams that switched anyway did it for the seat math and the client workflow. The RecurPost case studies show which rosters made that trade and why.
Hootsuite Pricing Math, Both Ways
Hootsuite’s per-user model produces the widest cost swings on this page. A cheaper alternative to Hootsuite is not automatic at every roster size, so the table runs the numbers in both directions.
| Tool | Base plan | Included | What changes the real cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite Standard | $99/user/mo (annual billing) | 10 accounts, unlimited posts | Each extra user adds $99/mo; approvals need Advanced at $399/user; monthly billing costs more |
| Hootsuite Professional | $199/user/mo (annual billing) | Unlimited accounts | Still per user; still no approvals |
| RecurPost Agency | $79/mo flat | 20 accounts, 3 team members, roles and Kanban board on every plan, approval workflow on Agency | Extra account $4/mo; extra member $20/mo; no listening at any price |
| Buffer Essentials | $6/channel/mo | 1 user | Approvals need Team at $12/channel; 15 channels with approvals = $180/mo |
| Metricool Starter | $25/mo | 5 brands (10 at $45), unlimited publishing | X publishing costs extra as an add-on |
| Vista Social Professional | $79/mo | 15 profiles, 2 users | X adds $29/mo; listening adds $75/mo |
| Agorapulse Standard | $99/user/mo ($79 annual) | 10 profiles per user | Listening add-on priced by sales call |
Sources: we checked these prices against each vendor’s pricing page on July 16, 2026: Hootsuite, Buffer, Metricool, Vista Social, and Agorapulse, plus the RecurPost plans and pricing page. Hootsuite’s month-to-month rates run higher than the annual-billing figures shown: Standard $149, Professional $299, and Advanced $499 per user per month, with extra Standard seats at $149 (verified from Hootsuite’s checkout on August 8, 2026).
A three-person team with 14 client accounts pays Hootsuite Professional $597 per month. RecurPost Agency covers the same roster and team for $79. Vista Social covers it for $108 with the X add-on. That gap, not any single feature, is why agencies make up most Hootsuite switchers.
A solo user with 3 accounts should not pay RecurPost at all. Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels at $0, against RecurPost Starter at $9 for 2 accounts. Buffer is the cheaper answer in that scenario.
A single-user brand that runs on benchmarking and monitoring can be cheapest staying put. One Hootsuite Standard seat at $99 buys unlimited posting on 10 accounts plus brand monitoring and benchmarking depth that RecurPost cannot supply at any price. Replacing that seat with RecurPost Agency at $79 plus a separate monitoring tool usually costs more than the $20 saved.
A listening-led agency should price Vista Social at $154 loaded ($79 plan, $75 listening) before pricing anything else, because Hootsuite’s own listening sits in tiers that start far above that number.
When Staying on Hootsuite Is the Right Call
Hootsuite keeps real advantages that nothing in the budget tier replaces:
- Hootsuite’s listening, powered by Talkwalker, tracks brands, topics and people with sentiment, demographics and influencer data at a depth no tool on this page matches.
- Hootsuite’s reporting ships dozens of templates with white-label exports and industry benchmarking.
- Hootsuite manages ads across Facebook, LinkedIn and X from the same dashboard.
- Hootsuite connects WhatsApp Business for Meta-verified companies.
- Hootsuite’s Enterprise tier carries SSO and compliance controls that regulated industries require.
- Hootsuite’s Advanced plan assigns and auto-routes messages to the right team members, which suits a customer-care rota rather than a publishing chain.
- Hootsuite manages permissions through departmental organization on its Standard, Professional, Advanced and Enterprise plans.
A government body, bank, university or hospital system with a security review behind its procurement should stay. So should any brand whose social team lives inside listening dashboards daily. The Hootsuite seat price buys listening depth, industry benchmarking, ads management that builds campaigns from scratch, SSO and compliance controls, and a $79 flat-rate scheduler sells none of those five things.

Where RecurPost Fits a Hootsuite Team, and Where It Does Not
RecurPost fits the roster that broke Hootsuite’s math. The three-person agency from the top of this page lands on RecurPost Agency because 14 accounts and 3 people cost $79 flat instead of $597. Each client sits in its own workspace, the writer drafts, the account manager clears internal review and the client signs off on the shareable calendar, all on the staged workflow the Agency plan includes. Every client connects accounts through a password-free email or link invite. RecurPost surfaces failed posts with a reason drawn from its internal catalog of 850+ documented platform failure types, publishes to X with a Twitter wallet that covers X’s $0.20 per-link posting fee, and posts to Google Business Profile with CTA buttons (Book, Call Now, Offer) plus rejection monitoring. Bulk CSV uploads, RSS and Google Alerts import and per-client content libraries cover the staging workflow Hootsuite spreads across add-ons.
RecurPost does not fit listening-driven teams, enterprises that need SSO, WhatsApp Business users, Snapchat publishers or anyone who needs competitive benchmarking. Those buyers have better answers in the groups above or in Hootsuite itself.
The RecurPost vs Hootsuite comparison walks both tools feature by feature if Hootsuite is your only other candidate.
Moving Off Hootsuite
Hootsuite exports the content calendar as CSV or PDF, so pull that export while your seats are still active and keep it as the record of scheduled and past content. Check your renewal date first: Hootsuite’s displayed pricing assumes an annual commitment, and a migration two months before renewal beats one two months after. RecurPost shortens the rebuild by importing your past posts straight from each connected social account, which recreates a working content library without reformatting the Hootsuite CSV. Rebuild your Hootsuite review steps as RecurPost workflow stages and give each person a role in every client workspace they cover before inviting the team, so the first week of posts moves across the board instead of through email.
Hootsuite Alternatives FAQs
How Much Does Hootsuite Cost in 2026?
Hootsuite’s plans page lists Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399, each per user per month on annual billing, with a custom-priced Enterprise tier above them. Standard includes 10 social accounts; Professional and Advanced include unlimited accounts. Month-to-month billing costs more per user, and Hootsuite does not publish that rate on the plans page.
Who Are Hootsuite’s Main Competitors?
Hootsuite competes with RecurPost, Planable, Buffer, Metricool, Vista Social, Agorapulse, HeyOrca, Sendible, SocialBee and Sprout Social. Each of those Hootsuite competitors replaces a different part of the product. RecurPost prices per social account instead of per user seat and runs staged approvals with per-client roles. Planable and HeyOrca compete on client sign-off. Buffer competes on publishing alone. Metricool competes on reporting and ads at a lower price. Sendible competes on password-free client connection and unlimited users. SocialBee competes on category-based content recycling. Vista Social, Agorapulse and Sprout Social compete on listening, each selling it as a paid add-on.
Which Hootsuite Alternatives Include Approval Workflows Without Per-Seat Pricing?
RecurPost includes an internal and external approval workflow on its Agency plan at $79 per month for 20 social accounts and 3 team members, with named stages, stage deadlines and client review on the shareable calendar. RecurPost includes the team roles, the custom permissions and the Kanban board on every plan from $9. HeyOrca builds its whole product around approval rounds and prices per client workspace, from $50 to $126 per workspace per month on annual billing. Planable prices per workspace with unlimited users, with optional sign-off on Basic at about $33 per workspace per month and enforced sign-off from Pro at about $49. Vista Social runs multi-step approvals in a set order on plans that bundle 2 users. Hootsuite itself holds approvals until Advanced at $399 per user per month.
Does RecurPost Have Team Roles and Permissions Like Hootsuite?
RecurPost includes team roles and permissions on every plan, assigned per workspace, so one person holds a different role for each client. RecurPost ships four role templates, from Contributor up to Publisher, and lets the account owner build a custom role by ticking individual permissions across posts, approvals, profiles, the content library, the inbox, reports, DM automations, paid ads, client review and team settings. Hootsuite manages permissions through departmental organization on its Standard, Professional, Advanced and Enterprise plans, sells access per user seat, and holds approvals and message auto-routing until Advanced at $399 per user per month.
What Happens When a Reviewer or a Client Misses an Approval Deadline in RecurPost?
RecurPost applies the rule the account owner set for that stage: hold the post, approve it automatically, escalate it, or reschedule it. RecurPost’s default Manager Review stage waits 48 hours and then escalates, and the default Client Review stage waits 72 hours and then moves the post one day later. RecurPost warns the assigned role at 50 percent and 80 percent of the timeout and again once the stage is overdue. RecurPost sets those timeouts at 4, 8, 24, 48 or 72 hours, or at 7 days.
Is There a Free Hootsuite Alternative That Works for a Team?
Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Metricool’s free plan manages 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month, without X or LinkedIn publishing. HeyOrca offers a free single-workspace tier. Free tiers fit a single-brand test rather than a team that filled 10 Hootsuite account slots.
Which Hootsuite Alternatives Include Social Listening?
Vista Social sells listening as a $75 per month add-on on top of its $79 Professional plan. Agorapulse sells a listening add-on priced through sales on plans from $79 per user per month on annual billing. Sprout Social sells listening as an add-on from its $199 Standard seat upward. Planable launched social listening in beta in June 2026, offered as an add-on covering X, YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and the web, with no published price. RecurPost and Buffer have no social listening at all.
What Does Replacing Hootsuite Cost for a Three-Person Team With 20 Accounts?
Hootsuite needs Professional for more than 10 accounts, so three seats cost $597 per month on annual billing. RecurPost Agency covers 20 accounts and 3 team members for $79 per month. Vista Social reaches 30 profiles on Advanced at $149 plus $29 for X. Buffer Team prices 20 channels at $240 per month for unlimited users. Only the Hootsuite figure grows again when a fourth person joins at full price.
Can RecurPost Import My Hootsuite Content?
You can rebuild your library in RecurPost by importing past posts directly from each connected social account, so published history returns without touching Hootsuite’s export files. Export anything still sitting unscheduled in Hootsuite as CSV before the seats close, then bulk-upload that file to RecurPost, which accepts CSV files of hundreds of posts.
What Is the Best Hootsuite Alternative for Your Team?
No single Hootsuite alternative fits every team, so the gap that pushed you out picks the tool. RecurPost fits a team of two or more people on a fixed account roster, because RecurPost’s Agency plan covers 20 social accounts and 3 members for $79 per month and includes roles on every plan. RecurPost does not fit a team that needs social listening, single sign-on or competitor benchmarking, and it does not fit a team that builds ad campaigns from scratch or runs Google, LinkedIn or TikTok ads, because RecurPost boosts published Facebook and Instagram posts only. Buffer fits a solo scheduler under roughly 10 channels with no review step. HeyOrca fits approval rounds when no client publishes to X. Planable fits enforced sign-off when the monthly post cap clears. Metricool fits a reporting and ads budget. Vista Social and Agorapulse fit teams that still sell listening reports. A brand whose social team lives in listening dashboards daily should stay on Hootsuite.
