Planoly alternatives divide by the reason you are leaving. Planoly’s own site lists autopublishing for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, and Threads, then notes that X and Amazon posts arrive as manual reminders instead. Planoly also sells accounts in social sets, and one set holds at most one account per platform.

Seven trigger groups below match each Planoly gap to the tools that close it, and each group names where RecurPost fits and where it does not. See the alternatives and competitors at a glance for the short version.

Every tool in that table misses somewhere. The sections below show where.

Planoly alternatives are social media management platforms that replace some combination of Planoly’s visual planning, publishing, and client-sharing workflows. No replacement matches Planoly’s Instagram-first grid planning and creator storefront. The right choice depends on whether platform coverage, account volume, client approvals, or team access is pushing you out.

Why Creators and Agencies Leave Planoly

Planoly built a strong Instagram planner and wrapped a creator storefront around it. The Planoly gaps below drive most departures.

Planoly bundles accounts into social sets, and each set holds at most one account per platform. A second Instagram account needs a second set. Planoly Starter includes 1 set, Growth includes 2, and Pro includes 6 sets for $55 per month, so a seventh account on the same platform costs another $8 set.

Planoly skips Google Business Profile, Facebook Groups, and Bluesky entirely. No Planoly plan upgrade adds those three, and no plan upgrade turns an X post into an automatic one. That combination rules out most local-business rosters.

Planoly’s client sharing is view-only. A client opens a shared Instagram calendar by link without an account. Planoly then gives that client no approve or reject action, no comment thread, and no pending-approval email on any plan. Agencies on Planoly run approvals over email screenshots.

Planoly’s invite flow failed a hands-on trial in May 2026. The invite email linked teammates to a plain login page instead of the inviter’s workspace, and Planoly offers no roles. A member added to a social set sees every account in that set.

Planoly’s analytics carry a beta label and lean almost entirely on Instagram. Platform-level reach and impressions cover Instagram and Pinterest only. Planoly ships no report builder, no PDF export, no white-label option, and no automated client reports.

Planoly’s posting workflow strains at volume. Planoly has no CSV bulk upload, no RSS import, and no queue. Planoly’s media library takes uploads one file at a time, and a single scheduling batch caps at 20 media items. RecurPost takes bulk CSV uploads of hundreds of posts, imports from RSS feeds and Google Alerts, and keeps recurring content libraries. Publer includes bulk tools at its lower price point.

A four-client boutique agency shows how these gaps stack. Each client posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X, and one client is a local bakery that needs Google Business Profile posts. On Planoly that agency posts every X update by hand from a phone, handles the bakery’s Google Business Profile posts outside the tool, and sends all four clients email screenshots for approval.

A solo Instagram creator selling digital products has not outgrown Planoly. The Linkit creator store takes zero transaction fees, the DM automation that supports it works, and the Instagram workspace remains the strongest part of the product. The section on staying with Planoly covers that case.

What a Planoly Replacement Has to Cover

Planoly prices in social sets, and that unit hides the real comparison. One Planoly set is worth between one and eight connected accounts depending on how many channels each client uses. Almost every alternative prices per social account, per channel, per brand, or per user seat instead. Count your roster twice: once as a flat number of accounts, and once as your largest single-platform cluster, because that cluster is what the set model actually caps.

Run these five checks against your Planoly roster:

  1. Confirm auto-publishing on the platforms your roster needs, especially X, Google Business Profile, and Bluesky. Planoly covers none of the three, and Later and HeyOrca skip X as well.
  2. Check the posting workflow at volume. Bulk CSV upload, RSS import, and a real drafts space separate agency schedulers from visual planners.
  3. Find the plan tier where a real approve-or-reject workflow starts, then ask what the tool does when a reviewer goes quiet. Planoly never offers the approval action at all, Buffer holds it until Team at $12 per channel, and Later starts it at $50.
  4. Check whether team roles separate who writes, who approves, and who publishes, and whether those roles can differ per client.
  5. Price the loaded cost, meaning base plan plus every add-on your roster forces. Vista Social’s $79 plan becomes $108 once X publishing joins.

Planoly and five common replacements answer the first and third checks in the table below.

RecurPost’s directory of social media scheduling alternatives runs a wider set of checks across 42 schedulers. The seven groups below run the Planoly-specific checks only.

Planoly Alternatives by Switching Trigger

You Need X (Twitter) Auto-Publishing

Closest fitRecurPost, or Buffer for a small solo roster
RecurPost fits whenSeveral clients post to X daily and the link fee should sit inside the plan
RecurPost does not fit whenTwo or three accounts are the whole roster, where Buffer costs less
Later and HeyOrcaNeither publishes to X

RecurPost publishes to X automatically on every paid plan. RecurPost’s X Wallet, funded by the account from $10.80, pays X’s $0.20 per-link posting fee, so link posts go out without setting up API billing per client. RecurPost publishes X posts over 280 characters only when the client holds their own X Premium subscription.

Buffer publishes to X on its free plan and up. Publer covers X at roughly $5 to $10 per account per month. Vista Social restores X for $29 per month on top of its $79 Professional plan and folds X analytics into that add-on. Metricool sells X publishing as an add-on from its $25 Starter tier upward.

Later does not fix this trigger. Later removed X publishing on August 28, 2025, so a visual-first buyer leaving Planoly over X has to look past the most obvious sibling tool. HeyOrca dropped X as well.

The four-client agency from the section above posts four sets of X updates by hand every week. RecurPost turns those four accounts into scheduled posts on the $9 Starter plan upward, and the account-funded X Wallet keeps link posts flowing.

You Outgrew Planoly’s Social-Set Model

Closest fitRecurPost, or Metricool for many separate multi-platform clients
RecurPost fits whenYour roster clusters on one platform or mixes platforms unevenly
RecurPost does not fit whenTen separate multi-platform clients need managing on a tight budget
Price scenario10-account single-platform roster: Planoly $87/mo, RecurPost $45/mo, Metricool $45/mo for 10 brands

RecurPost prices per social account with no set boundaries. RecurPost’s Agency plan covers 20 social accounts for $79 per month in any platform mix, with extra accounts at $4 each. Ten Instagram accounts plus ten Google Business Profiles is one valid 20-account roster, and the set model cannot express that shape at any price. RecurPost also groups those accounts into per-client workspaces with separate content libraries on the Agency plan, which is the client grouping Planoly’s sets only approximate.

Metricool prices per brand, and one Metricool brand holds one client’s whole profile set. Metricool covers 5 brands for $25 per month on Starter and 10 brands for $45, with unlimited publishing.

Publer prices per account, which stays cheap for small rosters and grows close to linearly. A 20-account roster on Publer lands near RecurPost’s flat $79 without the included team seats.

Planoly charges $87 per month for a ten-account single-platform roster, because that roster needs Pro plus four extra sets at $8 each.

You Need Client Approvals Without a Login and Team Roles Per Client

Closest fitRecurPost, or HeyOrca when the roster carries no X clients
RecurPost fits whenThe client needs a real approve or reject button without an account, the chain has defined stages, a missed review must trigger an action, and each teammate needs different access per client
RecurPost does not fit whenThe team needs many low-cost seats, a branded client portal on your own domain, or automatic client reminder emails
HeyOrca fits whenApproval rounds per client workspace are the whole job and no client posts to X
Sendible fits whenPassword-free client onboarding at a lower entry price fits the budget

Planoly’s client sharing stops at a view-only calendar link, so an agency running client approvals has no path inside the tool. Planoly gives the client no approve or reject action, no comment thread, and no pending-approval email on any plan. Planoly also offers no team roles, per the May 2026 hands-on trial, where a member added to a social set could see every account in that set.

RecurPost runs staged approvals on a Kanban board, with work, internal review, and client review stages and roles assigned per workspace, so one person can hold a different role for each client. RecurPost’s stage deadlines act on their own: when a stage timeout passes, RecurPost holds the post, approves it automatically, escalates it, or reschedules it. The client opens RecurPost’s shareable calendar without logging in, then approves each post or requests changes with one button. RecurPost onboards that client through a password-free email or link invite, so the client connects their own accounts and never shares credentials.

Most tools in this group ship roles and approvals too, so check the shape rather than the presence. HeyOrca prices per client workspace from $50 to $126 and runs the stages Draft, Awaiting approval, Approved, and Revise, with several named approvers. HeyOrca sends approval reminders 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days before publish and takes no automatic action once a review runs late. Vista Social includes multi-step approvals routed in a set order in its standard plans at $79 for 15 profiles and 2 users, lets clients approve without logging in, and offers a Kanban Board view inside Vista Work projects. Vista Social handles escalation through the third-party ApproveThis integration, and contributors’ posts there always need approval. Metricool ships preset roles named Manager, Editor, Content Creator, Analyst, and Client, plus custom roles. Metricool’s Client role approves or rejects posts. Publer ships Admin, Editor, and Client roles with approval set per member. Buffer gates approvals behind its Team plan at $12 per channel, and Later behind Growth at $50. Sendible pairs approvals with password-free Client Connect onboarding, from $29 per month with Client Connect from $99.

RecurPost includes roles, permissions, and the Kanban board on every plan, starting with the $9 Starter plan. RecurPost includes client workspaces and the internal and external approval workflow on the Agency plan at $79 per month, which covers 20 social accounts, 3 team members, and 5 shareable client calendars. Extra shareable calendars cost $10 per month for a block of 10.

You Need Analytics Beyond Instagram

Closest fitMetricool
Metricool fits whenCross-platform reporting and ads management in one dashboard matter most
Metricool does not fit whenClients expect a white-label PDF across ten platforms rather than a dashboard
RecurPost fits whenClient-ready reports across 10 platforms matter and benchmarking does not

Metricool’s free plan covers 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month. Metricool Starter covers 5 brands at $25 per month or 10 brands at $45. That tier includes unlimited publishing, cross-platform reporting, Google Business Profile on every tier, and ads management inside the same dashboard. Planoly’s beta analytics cover platform-level data for Instagram and Pinterest only, so a Metricool switch upgrades reporting on every other platform at once.

Vista Social reports across platforms with review management included, at a higher $79 entry.

RecurPost ships a Custom Reports builder that assembles 200+ metrics across its 10 supported platforms into a white-label PDF, which a manager downloads or emails to up to 25 recipients. The RecurPost analytics and reports page carries the template, chart type, and audience demographics detail. Planoly offers no report builder and no export at all, and RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking, so a benchmarking-led buyer belongs on Metricool.

RecurPost also boosts published Facebook and Instagram posts into ads, with budget, audience, and duration set inside RecurPost and billing through the client’s connected Meta ad account. RecurPost does not build ads from scratch, and RecurPost runs no Google, LinkedIn, or TikTok ads, which is where Metricool’s ads dashboard stays ahead.

You Want Cheap and Simple Across More Platforms

Closest fitBuffer
Buffer fits whenUnder roughly 10 channels with no client-approval needs
Buffer does not fit whenThe roster passes 10 channels or a client has to approve content
Publer fits whenCheap plus volume matters more than cheap plus simple

Buffer fits a solo operator, and its per-channel pricing works against an agency roster. Buffer’s free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Buffer Essentials costs $6 per channel per month on monthly billing ($5 annual) with unlimited scheduling. Buffer publishes to X, Google Business Profile, Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Buffer keeps its interface deliberately simple.

Buffer’s simplicity has hard edges. Buffer requires account credentials at connection, surfaces no error when a post fails, and gates approvals behind the Team plan at $12 per channel. Buffer also pushes the same content to every profile of a platform, with no per-profile customization in one pass.

RecurPost handles 850+ documented platform error types, from image size mismatches to token false-expiry, so a failed post surfaces with a reason. A silent failure is the version an agency hears about from the client instead.

Publer plays the same budget role at roughly $5 to $10 per account per month with bulk tools included. Past roughly 10 channels the per-channel math sends an agency back to the account-volume and approvals groups above.

You Want to Stay Visual-First With More Room

Closest fitLater, or Tailwind for Pinterest-led accounts
Later fits whenGrid planning and polish matter, and no client needs X or Google Business Profile
Later does not fit whenThe roster carries X or local-business clients, because Later shares both Planoly gaps
Tailwind fits whenPinterest drives your traffic

Later keeps the grid planning a Planoly buyer came for, and it holds more accounts. Later Starter covers 8 profiles for $25 per month with polished Instagram planning, against Planoly Starter’s single set at $16. Later caps Starter publishing at 30 posts per profile per month and holds approvals until Growth at $50.

Later shares Planoly’s two biggest platform holes. Later has no X publishing and no Google Business Profile, so this switch buys room and polish rather than coverage.

Tailwind fits when Pinterest drives your traffic. Tailwind pairs Pinterest scheduling with Instagram and Facebook and covers nothing else, at $17.99 per month on annual billing for one Pinterest account.

RecurPost is the wrong trade for this trigger. RecurPost’s interface is utilitarian, and a manager running six Instagram accounts who wants grid-first planning will feel that shift on day one.

You Need Social Listening or Enterprise Monitoring

Closest fitSprout Social or Hootsuite, Agorapulse for less
Either fits whenListening reports are a billable deliverable
Neither fits whenPer-seat pricing outruns what those reports earn
RecurPost does not fitRecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis at any price

Sprout Social and Hootsuite are the two tools here that sell listening with a published per-seat price. Sprout Social starts at $99 per seat per month on Essentials, with social listening sold as an add-on from the $199 Standard plan upward. Sprout Social also runs multi-step, multi-role approval workflows. Hootsuite runs $99 to $399 per user per month on annual billing with listening in its higher tiers. Agorapulse sells listening on a per-user plan with strong inbox tooling. Vista Social sells listening as a $75 per month add-on.

RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis at any price, and neither does Planoly. An agency whose listening reports are a billable deliverable prices those per-seat numbers against what the reports earn.

Where RecurPost Falls Short

RecurPost’s gaps deserve the same bluntness as Planoly’s.

  • RecurPost has no social listening and no sentiment analysis.
  • RecurPost’s interface is utilitarian. It handles large client rosters fine and wins no design awards doing it, and a buyer coming from Planoly’s grid-first planner will feel that shift.
  • RecurPost offers no competitor benchmarking.
  • RecurPost has no link-in-bio product and no storefront, so Planoly’s Linkit store and its zero-fee product sales have no RecurPost equivalent at all.
  • RecurPost includes 3 team members on the Agency plan and charges $20 per month for each extra member. Planoly Pro includes 6 users and charges $3 per month for each extra user.
  • RecurPost has no branded client portal on your own domain and sends no automatic client reminder emails to clients who owe an approval.
  • RecurPost includes 5 shareable client calendars on the Agency plan, so a roster past five clients adds $10 per month for a block of 10 more.
  • RecurPost publishes X posts beyond 280 characters only when the client holds their own X Premium subscription.

A six-person team on Planoly Pro pays $55 per month with all six users included. The same headcount on RecurPost Agency costs $139: the $79 plan plus three extra members at $20 each. Agencies that switched anyway did it for account coverage, platform coverage, and approvals. The RecurPost case studies show which rosters made that trade and why.

The Pricing Math, Both Ways

Want the numbers for your own roster? The social media tool pricing calculator prices 36 schedulers, including Planoly, for your profiles, seats, clients and must-have features, with the arithmetic shown.

Planoly’s sticker prices sit low, and small rosters can leave for the wrong reason. The table shows the loaded numbers.

Planoly Pro$556 social sets (1 account per platform per set)Extra set $8/mo; extra user $3/mo; X stays manual on every plan
RecurPost Agency$79203 team members and 5 shareable client calendars included; extra member $20/mo; extra account $4/mo; extra calendars $10/mo per block of 10; X, Google Business Profile, the approval workflow, roles, and the Kanban board included

Later Starter$25830 posts per profile per month; no X, no Google Business Profile; approvals at $50

Sources: Planoly, Buffer, Metricool, Later, and Vista Social. Verified July 16, 2026. RecurPost plans verified September 15, 2026. Annual billing lowers most of these by roughly 12 to 25 percent.

RecurPost costs less than Planoly in the first three rosters below, and Buffer and Later each undercut RecurPost in one of them.

A solo creator with one Instagram, one TikTok, and one Pinterest account pays $16 on Planoly Starter, $0 on Buffer’s free plan, and $13 on RecurPost (Starter at $9 plus one $4 account). Buffer’s $0 is the lowest number in that roster. Planoly’s $16 pays for itself the moment the Linkit store earns more than $16 a month, because neither Buffer nor RecurPost sells anything for you.

A manager running six Instagram accounts needs Planoly Pro at $55, because six accounts on one platform means six sets. Later Starter holds all six inside 8 profiles for $25, and RecurPost Personal at $25 plus one $4 add-on reaches six for $29. Later costs $4 a month less than RecurPost on that roster, and that gap only counts when no client needs X or Google Business Profile.

A ten-account single-platform roster breaks the set model completely. Planoly needs Pro plus four extra sets, which totals $87. RecurPost covers 10 accounts on Personal plus five add-ons for $45, and Metricool Starter covers 10 brands for $45 with X left off the list.

The four-client agency at 16 accounts with approvals cannot price its workflow on Planoly at all, because no Planoly plan approves anything. RecurPost Agency runs $79 with client workspaces, the approval workflow, roles, and the Kanban board included. Buffer Team runs $192 for the same 16 channels. Vista Social runs $108 once the X add-on joins. HeyOrca prices those four clients per workspace and goes deepest on approval rounds when X drops off the roster. Compare RecurPost pricing against your own roster before switching, because add-ons decide the total.

When Staying on Planoly Is the Right Call

Planoly keeps four things nobody on this page fully replaces:

  1. Planoly’s Linkit creator store sells digital and physical products with zero transaction fees.
  2. Planoly’s DM automation drives those store sales out of the box.
  3. Planoly’s trend calendar pushes weekly content prompts with hashtags into your schedule.
  4. Planoly’s dedicated Instagram workspace, with its grid view, story analytics, and quick-schedule flow, stays stronger for pure Instagram planning than most general schedulers.

A solo creator earning through the store should stay. RecurPost has no storefront and no link-in-bio product, and Buffer and Metricool sell nothing for you either. Switching would trade real income features for scheduling breadth that a single-brand Instagram account rarely needs.

An agency running four clients with approvals sits at the other end. That agency cannot price its workflow on Planoly at any tier, because no Planoly plan gives a client an approval action.

Where RecurPost Fits, and Where It Does Not

RecurPost fits the roster that broke Planoly. The four-client agency lands on RecurPost for six reasons at once:

  • RecurPost publishes every client’s X account automatically, with the account-funded X Wallet paying link fees.
  • RecurPost posts to the bakery’s Google Business Profile with CTA buttons (Book, Call Now, Offer) and flags a post that gets rejected after acceptance.
  • RecurPost connects every client through a password-free invite, so no credentials change hands.
  • RecurPost gives each client its own workspace on the Agency plan, and each client approves on the shareable calendar instead of over email.
  • RecurPost moves each post from writer to account manager to client on the Kanban board, with roles deciding who acts at each stage.
  • RecurPost surfaces a reason for any failure out of 850+ documented platform failure types.

RecurPost also runs Instagram DM keyword automation with CTA buttons across the planner, where Planoly limits DM automation to its store.

RecurPost does not fit creators monetizing through a storefront, listening-driven agencies, or teams that need many low-cost seats. Those buyers have better answers in the groups above. The RecurPost vs Planoly comparison walks both tools feature by feature when Planoly is your only other candidate.

Moving Off Planoly

Planoly stores your media in its library, so download those files before canceling. Captions staged in Planoly’s calendar have no export path and need copying out by hand. RecurPost shortens the rebuild by importing the last 6 months of posted content from each connected social account, which recreates a working content library without any file shuffling.

RecurPost’s setup runs in one order. The account owner rebuilds your review steps as workflow stages first, then invites each teammate with a role in every workspace they cover, then sends each client the shareable calendar link. Budget an afternoon for a six-account roster. The RecurPost migration checklist runs the longer version of the same move.

Planoly Alternatives FAQs

Which Planoly Alternative Fits an Agency?

The answer depends on which Planoly gap is pushing the agency out. RecurPost fits an agency whose clients post to X, whose roster clusters on one platform, and whose clients have to approve posts without a login, with each teammate’s role set per client. HeyOrca fits when approval rounds per client workspace are the whole job and no client posts to X. Metricool fits when cross-platform reporting and ads management matter more than a white-label PDF. Buffer fits a solo roster under roughly 10 channels with no client approvals. Later fits an agency that wants grid-first planning and carries no X or Google Business Profile clients. Sprout Social and Hootsuite fit when listening reports are a billable deliverable. A creator earning through Planoly’s Linkit store should stay on Planoly.

Does Planoly Auto-Publish to X (Twitter)?

Planoly does not auto-publish to X on any plan. Planoly sends a phone reminder and you post manually. RecurPost, Buffer, and Publer publish to X automatically on standard paid plans, Vista Social adds X for $29 per month, and Metricool sells X as an add-on from its Starter tier.

What Is a Planoly Social Set and How Many Accounts Does It Hold?

One Planoly social set links up to one account of each channel: Instagram, Facebook, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, and TikTok. Seven of those eight auto-publish, and X arrives as a manual reminder. A second account on any platform needs a second set. Planoly Starter includes 1 set and 1 user, Growth includes 2 sets and 2 users, and Pro includes 6 sets and 6 users. Planoly charges $10 per month for an extra set on Growth and $8 on Pro.

Does Planoly Support Google Business Profile?

Planoly does not publish to Google Business Profile on any plan. RecurPost, Buffer, Metricool, Publer, and Vista Social all publish to Google Business Profile. RecurPost adds Google Business Profile CTA buttons (Book, Call Now, Offer) plus monitoring for a post that gets rejected after acceptance.

Is There a Free Planoly Alternative?

Buffer and Metricool both run free plans that work as Planoly alternatives for a single brand. Buffer’s free tier holds 3 channels at 10 scheduled posts each, and Metricool’s holds 1 brand with up to 20 posts per month, without X or LinkedIn publishing. HeyOrca offers a free single-workspace tier. Planoly’s own free option is a mobile-only plan capped at 10 uploads per month. RecurPost runs no free plan and offers a 14-day trial with no credit card from $9 per month instead. Each of these free plans fits a single-brand test rather than a client roster.

Which Planoly Alternative Is Cheapest for a Solo Creator?

Buffer costs the least for 3 or fewer channels (free) and stays cheap on Essentials at $6 per channel per month. RecurPost Starter covers 2 accounts for $9 per month with the full scheduler, roles, and the Kanban board included. Publer prices at roughly $5 to $10 per account. Planoly Starter runs $16 per month for one social set, and the store features inside that price are what the cheaper tools lack.

Do Any Planoly Alternatives Include a Real Client Approval Workflow?

RecurPost runs a staged approval workflow with client workspaces on the Agency plan at $79 per month. RecurPost’s clients approve each post or request changes on the shareable calendar without logging in. A missed stage timeout then holds the post, approves it automatically, escalates it, or reschedules it. HeyOrca builds its whole product around approval rounds, priced per client workspace. Sendible pairs approvals with password-free onboarding through Client Connect. Buffer gates approvals behind Team at $12 per channel, and Later behind Growth at $50. Planoly offers view-only calendar sharing with no approval action.

What Does Switching From Planoly Cost at Six or More Instagram Accounts?

Six Instagram accounts require Planoly Pro at $55 per month, because each set holds one Instagram account. Later Starter covers 8 profiles for $25, RecurPost reaches six accounts for $29 (Personal plus one add-on), and Metricool covers up to 10 brands for $45 on its Starter tier. Every one of those alternatives undercuts Planoly Pro at this roster shape.
