Tag Users
Tag Users in Your Social Media Posts
RecurPost lets you tag users, mention accounts, invite collaborators, and add product and location tags while you compose a post. Each tag type behaves differently by platform. RecurPost supports tagging on Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Threads, and Bluesky, and the steps change on each one. For an agency posting to dozens of client accounts, knowing the limits up front prevents a round of rejected posts.

What You Can Tag Inside the RecurPost Composer
The RecurPost composer permits you to add 5 different types of tags. You can add these tags in the same place where you write your caption and attach media, before the post goes to the scheduler. Each tag serves a different purpose, allowing you to tailor your posts for greater visibility, engagement, or functionality; they include:
Account mentions
Put an @handle in your text and link it to that profile.
People tags
Mark the accounts shown inside an Instagram image.
Collaborator invites
Add a co-author to an Instagram post.
Product tags
Turn an Instagram or Facebook post into a shoppable post.
Location tags
Attach a city, landmark, or business to an Instagram post.
RecurPost groups all five tagging options inside one composer, while most social media scheduling tools support only the standard @mention.
For instance, if your agency tags a partner brand, a venue, and a product in the same post, RecurPost eliminates the need to switch back to the native app three separate times.
Tag and Mention Accounts Across Platforms
RecurPost supports account mentions across 7 social networks, although the steps differ by network. In most cases, the process is straightforward, but the exact workflow depends on the platform. On Facebook Pages, X, and LinkedIn Pages, you type @ and start the name, and then select the correct account from the suggested list.
However, on Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky, RecurPost does not display account suggestions while you type. Instead, you must enter the complete handle manually. Once the post is published, RecurPost converts the handle into a clickable link.
| Platform | Account mention | How it works | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Pages | Yes | Type @ and pick from suggestions | Replace spaces in a Page name with underscores |
| Facebook profiles and groups | No | Not supported | Posting still works through push notifications |
| Yes | Type the handle manually | Links after publishing; no auto-suggest (Meta API) | |
| X (Twitter) | Yes | Type @ and the exact username | Username must match X exactly |
| LinkedIn Pages | Yes | Type @ and pick the Page | Search by Page name or URL username |
| LinkedIn profiles | Yes, on Company Page posts | Type @ and pick the person | The person must follow the Page you post from |
| Threads | Yes | Type the handle manually | Links after publishing |
| Bluesky | Yes | Type the handle manually | No official API for auto-suggest |
| No | Not supported | — |
For example, if your agency manages 12 clients and requires you to tag six partner brands for a co-marketing campaign, you enter each handle once in RecurPost and then schedule the Facebook Page, X, and LinkedIn Page posts together.
Tag People, Products, and Collaborators on Instagram
RecurPost supports three Instagram tagging options that go beyond a standard text mention.
Invite a collaborator
RecurPost lets you invite a collaborator to an Instagram post. Once the invited account accepts the invitation, the post appears on both profiles as a co-authored post. This certainly increases its visibility and shared reach.
Tag people in the image
RecurPost lets you tag people directly in the Instagram image instead of mentioning them in the caption. You select the accounts that appear in the photo, which helps viewers identify the people featured in the post.
Tag products
RecurPost supports product tagging on Instagram and Facebook. This turns the post into a shoppable post and helps customers view featured products directly.
For example, your agency manages a retail product launch. You can tag the featured product and invite the brand’s regional Instagram account as a collaborator directly from the RecurPost composer.
These Instagram tagging features work best for visual and product-focused brands. For text-focused B2B content, LinkedIn Page mentions remain a better choice.

Instagram handles are typed manually – the Meta API does not provide account suggestions to third-party tools.
Add Location Tags to Instagram Posts
RecurPost permits you to add a location tag to an Instagram post directly from the composer. Therefore, to add a location tag, follow these four steps:
Open the Instagram tab
Add your caption and image.
Click the location icon
Enter a city, landmark, or business name.
Check your selection
Click the location icon again to check the location you picked.
Schedule or publish
Schedule the post or publish it immediately.
RecurPost saves the selected location for both one-time and recurring posts. As a result, recurring posts continue to publish with the same location until you update it.
For instance, if your franchise agency manages 30 outlets, you can assign each outlet’s location to its recurring weekly Instagram post. This results in every branch appearing in relevant local Instagram searches, while maintaining a consistent publishing workflow.

Tagging Limits to Check Before You Schedule
A few tagging limitations affect how you prepare client posts in RecurPost. Notably, before you schedule a batch of posts to avoid publishing errors, review these limitations:
Type handles carefully
RecurPost cannot auto-suggest handles on Instagram, Threads, or Bluesky. Therefore, type each handle carefully. Note that a misspelled handle publishes as plain text.
Some profiles stay untagged
RecurPost does not tag Facebook personal profiles, Facebook groups, or Pinterest profiles. However, you can still publish to Facebook groups and profiles through push notifications.
LinkedIn needs a follow
RecurPost tags a LinkedIn personal profile only in a Company Page post, and only if the tagged person follows the Company Page.
No Instagram user search
RecurPost cannot search Instagram users from the caption box, because the Meta API does not allow it. You enter the handle instead.
If a tagging error prevents a post from publishing, RecurPost displays the specific platform error instead of failing silently.
As a result, you can identify the issue and correct it before publishing the post again.
Where Tagging Fits in Your Client Posting Workflow
RecurPost keeps all tagging options in the same composer where you write your post, add images or videos, and set the first comment. You add the tags once, and RecurPost carries those tags into the schedule and into any recurring queue.
RecurPost also allows you to use the same tags across multiple client accounts in one workspace. As a result, you do not need to add the same partner mention or location tag for every account.
Tagging is one part of the RecurPost post composer. For platform-by-platform Instagram scheduling, see the RecurPost Instagram scheduler.
RecurPost works as social media management software for agencies and freelancers running client accounts at scale.

Tag Users FAQs
Can I tag users on Instagram with RecurPost?
RecurPost supports four types of Instagram tags, namely:
- account mentions in the caption,
- people tags inside the image,
- collaborator invites, and
- product tags.
You must enter Instagram handles manually because the Meta API does not support auto-suggestions. RecurPost then converts the handle into a clickable mention after the post is published.
Which platforms support mentions in RecurPost?
RecurPost supports account mentions on Facebook Pages, Instagram, X, LinkedIn Pages, LinkedIn personal profiles on Company Page posts, Threads, and Bluesky. However, RecurPost does not support mentions on Facebook personal profiles, Facebook Groups, or Pinterest.
Can I invite an Instagram collaborator from RecurPost?
RecurPost lets you invite an Instagram collaborator from the composer. Once the invited account accepts the invitation, it becomes a co-author, and the post appears on both profiles and shares the reach.
Can I add a location tag to scheduled Instagram posts?
RecurPost lets you add a location tag to scheduled Instagram posts from the location icon in the composer. You enter a city, landmark, or business name, and RecurPost keeps the selected location on both one-off posts and recurring posts.
Why don’t Instagram mentions auto-complete in RecurPost?
RecurPost cannot auto-complete Instagram mentions because the Meta API does not provide account suggestions to third-party tools. You must enter the full Instagram handle manually, and RecurPost converts it into a clickable mention after the post is published.
Does tagging work the same across client accounts?
RecurPost applies the same tags across multiple client accounts in one workspace. You add a mention or location tag once, and RecurPost keeps those tags in scheduled posts and recurring posts for each account.
